The morning light crept slowly through the blinds of Y/n's room, warming the air as it touched the floorboards. She stirred awake, her body still heavy with the lingering exhaustion of the last few days. For a moment, she lay there, staring at the ceiling, the events leading up to her arrival at Jujutsu High playing over and over in her head like a broken record.
Am I really here? she wondered, her mind flashing back to the day Gojo had found her after she woke from the coma. She had expected the world to feel different, but instead, it was her that had changed. The world was still the same—bright, unforgiving, and full of shadows no one else could see. But Y/n now walked a thin line between that world and another, darker one.
Her eyes shifted to the door, where something unfamiliar caught her attention. A neatly folded pile of clothes sat on a small wooden table beside the door. She blinked, sitting up slowly as curiosity overcame her grogginess. Standing up, Y/n made her way over to the table, her fingers hesitantly brushing over the fabric—a dark blue almost black, high-collared uniform with gold buttons.
The uniform.
On top of it was a folded piece of paper. Y/n unfolded it and read the scrawled handwriting she had quickly come to recognize. "Time to look the part. - Gojo". His usual lighthearted tone seemed to leap off the page.
She stared at the uniform for a few moments before sighing and putting it on. The fabric felt strange against her skin—familiar yet foreign, like wearing a costume she wasn't sure belonged to her. Once dressed, she stood in front of the small mirror hanging by her wardrobe and stared at herself. The girl in the reflection looked like a completely different person—stronger, more resolute. But Y/n could still see the fragility beneath it all. The fear of what was to come. She clenched her fists at her sides. I can do this, she told herself, though doubt quickly bubbled up.
Despite her lingering uncertainty, the day stretched ahead of her with nothing planned. She needed to move. I might as well explore, she thought, leaving her room and stepping out into the wide corridors of Jujutsu High.
The campus was sprawling, far larger than she'd anticipated. The buildings, with their ancient architecture and endless corridors, seemed to stretch on for miles. It was easy to get lost, but she didn't mind. She passed by classrooms that were quiet today, their doors slightly ajar, and training areas filled with practice dummies and old equipment, which left her wondering what kind of intense training awaited her.
As she wandered, she couldn't help but marvel at how different her life had become. Just months ago, she was an ordinary girl—well, as ordinary as one could be when constantly haunted by shadows only she could see. Now, she was standing in a place that felt pulled from the pages of some forgotten myth, a place that felt equal parts magical and terrifying.
Eventually, Y/n found herself in a large courtyard. The open space was framed by towering trees, their leaves rustling in the gentle breeze. The area was deserted, the only sound was the faint rustle of leaves and the distant chirping of birds. She could easily imagine the courtyard filled with students, practicing their techniques, clashing in mock battles. She looked down at her hands, her fingers tightening into fists. She hadn't even started training yet—did she really belong here? Could she become one of them, like Gojo, or even Fushiguro?
Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching from behind.
"Getting a feel for the place, huh?" Gojo's voice rang out, light and teasing as usual.
Y/n turned to find him standing there, a relaxed grin on his face, his signature blindfold covering his eyes. He leaned against a tree, arms crossed, as if he had all the time in the world.
"It's...bigger than I thought it would be," she admitted, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth despite herself. Gojo had that effect on people—making things feel lighter and less serious.
Gojo pushed off the tree and strolled toward her. "Well, you're going to need to know your way around. We've got a mission tomorrow night."
Y/n blinked, her brows furrowing. "A mission? I haven't even started training yet."
He waved her concerns away as though they were a minor inconvenience. "Training's overrated. This mission is simple. We're just picking something up."
She crossed her arms, not convinced. "If it's that simple, why do you need me?"
Gojo flashed a wide grin, one that only served to deepen her skepticism. "Because you need experience. Besides, you won't be alone. Megumi's coming along."
Her stomach dropped at the mention of Megumi. Memories of middle school, of his cold stares and bullying words, flashed through her mind. Even though he had apologized, the weight of their past still hung between them like a dark cloud.
"Fushiguro? Why him?" she asked, trying to keep the apprehension out of her voice.
"Who else?" Gojo shrugged nonchalantly. "It's just a quick trip. No fighting, no danger. Think of it as a field trip."
She frowned, not quite buying it. "If it's so easy, why send a complete novice like me? There's something you're not telling me."
Gojo raised an eyebrow, his playful demeanor faltering for a split second before returning in full force. "You're sharp. But there's no need to worry. It's more of a scouting mission than anything else. Besides," he added with a wink, "I'll be watching over you."
Y/n remained silent, her mind swirling with uncertainty. The idea of going on a mission so soon made her feel nauseous, especially with Megumi. She wasn't ready for this—she had no idea what she was doing. But Gojo's calm confidence was difficult to argue against.
After a long pause, she sighed. "And if something goes wrong?"
Gojo's smile softened, and for a brief moment, his usual carefree attitude seemed to melt away, revealing something deeper. "Nothing will go wrong. Trust me."
The way he said it, with such certainty, made Y/n hesitate. But before she could ask anything more, Gojo turned and began walking away, his figure disappearing into the shadowed hallway. "Get some rest, Y/n. Tomorrow's a new day."
Alone once again in the courtyard, Y/n's thoughts raced. Tomorrow she would be thrown into the deep end, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, no matter how much Gojo reassured her. But one thing was clear—this was just the beginning.
As she stood under the swaying trees, the weight of what lay ahead pressed down on her. She glanced at the horizon, where the sun was slowly beginning its descent. Tomorrow night, everything would change again. And as much as she wanted to retreat into the safety of her old life, Y/n knew there was no turning back now.....
