My heart hammered in my chest; I couldn't begin to describe how afraid I was in this moment. But feeling him against me, the steady rhythm of his breathing—Alex was oddly calm in that moment. I suppose it was the Hunter in him: the patience, taking your time, stalking your prey, waiting for the right moment.
The door rattled, and I shifted uncomfortably before sinking back into him. His hand wrapped around me before his free hand slid to my waistband. My mind reeled in shock—here we were, on the verge of being caught, and he was trying to touch me. I slapped his hand away in annoyance.
"What the fuck, Alex?" I snapped quietly.
"You need to relax, or we're going to get caught," he replied softly, not a hint of annoyance in his voice. How he was able to stay so calm amidst the chaos, I had no idea, but his calm was oddly soothing.
"So your solution is to finger me?" I asked, a hint of confusion in my voice. By the time the next thought formed, he was kissing me, and my brain lost the train of thought entirely. I suppose if the guards happened to see people making out, they might leave us be or be too uncomfortable to investigate further. Maybe Alex's plan was smarter than I gave it credit for.
"My solution is to make you relax," He replied the way he was so calm, so collected made my body tremble, as his hand snaked inside my pants once more finding my heated core.
I couldn't deny that the danger heightened everything. At any moment, we could be surrounded by TG forces, and here was Alex with his fingers buried inside me. My body rose as I struggled to stay quiet, soft moans escaping before his hand clamped firmly over my mouth, muffling the sound. His fingers shifted, curling and stroking, and again my body rose, only for him to slow, frustrating my desperate need for release. Each time I got close, he'd stop and wait before picking up again. Every now and then, we'd hear voices, then it would go quiet, and he'd return to tormenting me.
He enjoyed the control; he always did. His eyes locked on mine as he whispered, "Cum for me," and that was enough to send my body spiralling into bliss. My back arched, my thighs trembled as he pushed his fingers deeper. His hand stayed clamped over my mouth as I moaned against it, desperately hoping they didn't hear, feeling that release hit. He held me until the sensation passed.
"You're an idiot," I whimpered when he finally removed his hand from my mouth.
"Mmm, but I'm your idiot," he replied with a smirk.
"Can we go now?" I breathed. He climbed into the front, peered around, then nodded and started the car.
We made it out of London North, and Alex drove. Even through the checkpoints, somehow his ID hadn't been flagged—perhaps Abigail was doing her job all too well. For the moment, we were able to drive free of the building and the entire military zone. Once we turned back into London itself, I finally felt myself relax, probably for the first time since this whole thing had begun.
By the time we reached HQ, my nerves had all but subsided. The worst was over, and I had nearly regained my composure.
"Abigail kept your ID active until you got clear?" I asked him now.
"Yeah, but that's it. I'm done with the TG now, and probably their most wanted." He replied, eerily calm in that statement, as if it was just a fact, as if he wasn't worried. That scared me because if he wasn't worried, then he was reckless, and that could prove dangerous.
"They'll come for you," I said softly.
"They can try, but I've survived worse, Terra. Losing you was the worst thing to ever happen to me. I lost myself for so long. Being a Hunter gave me a purpose, but I've barely been alive until now," he said. His words were filled with emotion, and I felt for him.
As we finally reached the access point, Alex turned off the engine, and we exited the car. He took a moment to check the vehicle before we moved to the access hatch and dropped into the underground, walking along the tracks. As ever, we horsed around, pushing and teasing each other—right up to the moment when he had me pinned to the wall by my throat and kissed me so deeply and hard that it took my breath away.
I always loved the way Alex could surprise me—the way he kissed, and how our passion was so intense it became addictive. I hadn't realised just how much I needed him in my life until I saw his name on that file. I hadn't thought about how much I needed Alex to balance and complete my world. Alex and I had a love that transcended everything; after all, it had even survived death.
"So Abigail really did all this to help Alice? To protect her sister?" I asked, wondering why someone would be willing to play by the TG's rules for so long while undermining them.
"I always thought she blamed the resistance for her husband's death, but she blames the TG for ever putting her husband in that situation. Her and Alice have been working towards this for years. Abigail orchestrated me hunting you, while Alice guided you to see what was left of us. They've been working towards our reunion for a long time. Alice and Abigail have been trying to bring down the TG since before you and I entered the fight. So we do what we do and focus on what's next. For them, it's very personal." His words came with ease; it was clear he'd had conversations with Abigail about the matter. You had to wonder how that had come about or how those conversations went.
"Is that why there was very little backlash to Skyfield?" I asked him now.
"Abigail convinced them that we intervened and stemmed any need for retaliation. They also captured a couple of your team, so they're in Supermax, probably not having a fun time. But you knew what you signed up for, right?" His voice sounded annoyed at that statement. I understood why; after all, I was in constant danger.
"I used to think that, Alex. I really did. But now... I just want a life with the man I love without looking over my shoulder all the time," I replied softly.
