" AKIRAAA HEMES! COME TO THE LIVING ROOM RIGHT NOW." I hear my best friend Celestia Burnes yell. I grab my freshly made bowl of buttery popcorn and leave the kitchen.
"What is it?" I look at her with curious eyes and plop down onto the couch with her. I raise my bowl at her, offering her some popcorn.
"Look at the TV, I've never seen a national message be this urgent ever. Maybe we are going to war orrr they have finally realized our planet is dying and are doing something about it!" she says as she grabs a handful of popcorn.
She's an influencer so any news is an opportunity for her and her career. She loves being up to date with the news, politics, and social trends. She's basically my newspaper for society today and I couldn't be more grateful due to ahow busy my life gets. I just finished my first year of Med School at Stanford and since summer has arrived, I've started my job as an Medical Assistant and part time badminton coach. It's a busy life for me stressing about studying, making money, and just staying alive. It's hard to keep up with the news, but thanks to her I'm always informed.
"I hope it's not the first option, I have so much more I want to accomplish." I say while being upset at the thought.
The TV screen flashes with the word "Urgent Nation Message" from the Bureau of the USA. In just a few quick seconds, the President shows up with a stern look on his face. "Hello Citizens of America. I have gathered you here today to discuss the exciting yet controversial news. We have made an alliance with the aliens that have landed on our planet. I know this may not be easy for some people, but we have been documenting the process and kept the world aware of our interactions with their species known as 'Kunai' species. Although they are not from Earth, they are one of the most genetically and mentally similar species to humans which we have confirmed with a few months of testing using our best Artificial Intelligence systems and best scientists. With our alliance, they will be able to help us with their technology and advanced methods and systems to help our Earth while also aid in our space and ocean exploration."
Celestia and I looked at each other in excitement at this. "Isn't this so exciting?? Just imagine how much more we can accomplish now that we have the backup of alien technology." I nod my head in agreement and drone out the announcement as I think about all the ways medicine may be affected. It's all so exciting, and im glad this was the announcement.
As I tune back into the announcement, the president says "However, this part may upset the masses and we desperately apologize. In return, the Kunai aliens species are dying and they need women who are willing to get with them and reproduce for their planet. So we have come to the agreement that all physically well and single women aged from 22-35 who are citizens of America will be required to be apart of a random selection that will expect their attendance at balls to determine their matches with the aliens who are existing on our planet. The invitations to the ball of those randomly selected will appear in one week as preparations for the ball have been set and funded fully by the USA. If there are any issues, we will be very lenient as I'm sure many people are excited about the prospects of this alliance. I hope everyone is excited for what is to come and assure this is for the benefit of our country. Thank you."
My jaw dropped in shock. I whipped my head to Celestia who had the same reaction as me. But unlike me there was a gleam of excitement in her green eyes while my eyes were probably drained of color.
If war was bad, this could be worse, this IS worse. I can just imagine all my hopes and dreams flying out the door if I'm forced to be with one of these Kunai people. I am not glad anymore about this announcement.
"I know this might be horrible. But I can't believe we are about to enter the era of human x aliens babies!? Who would have knew I would be alive for this." she says eagerly.
"I don't know how I feel about this, what if we get picked for this ball thing since we are both single and within the age. They didn't even really explain what was going to happen, everything's like one big question mark." We are both 23 one year out of undergraduate college. Dam it, if only we were two years younger. The stars are not aligning in my favor, ugh.
"You're right, I wonder if they'll release a statement or something about all this and clear things up. It'll probably be within this week if we are getting a notice about the ball in a week." She says while getting up.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to get my laptop to do a bit more research on these Kunai aliens." I nod at her and start shoving handfuls of popcorn into my mouth. Maybe this will be one of the last few times I'll have popcorn. I shudder at the thought because who doesn't love some good popcorn? Aliens can't take away that from me, right?
This next week will be a crazy stalking hunt on everything about this species so I can mentally prepare and fight if I have to.
