I wake up to Celestia getting out of the shower with her towel on.
"Hey sleepyhead, you ready for today?" She asks.
"No what day is it even today." I say while nudging my face into my pillow.
"Matchmaking results day!!" She says in a sing songy voice. Gah, kill me now.
"Hopefully you get your knight in shining armor." I say sarcastically.
"Don't be such a Debby downer, I'm sure they're not going to force us into this if we don't like them." She says trying resssure me. I'm not sure about the regulation, so I can't say for sure how they'll react if one of the girls were to reject their match.
"How do you think they're gonna tell us? In private or publicly?" I ask out of curiosity.
"Hmm that's a good question. I hope it's not public, that would be a little awkward for some people." I mhm in agreement. I get up to take a shower and then we get ready in silence. We got breakfast delivered to our rooms, so it was a quick meal.
As we exit into the hallway, I feel the air around me drenched in anticipation and anxiousness. Or maybe that's just me. Regardless, this is a pretty big day for everyone.
Being married to an alien, or rather: going to be, was probably on no one's checklist. Unless they had some crazy fantasy hypothetical that managed to come true where all the galaxies aligned perfectly for that person. Lucky them!
Unluckily for me, I can't seem to just nudge off all the goals, aspirations and work I put into where I am now. It's some part the asian guilt in me, I feel like I'm throwing my life away if I succumb to this.
We walk down to the grand hall again where, similar to yesterday, there was a line of women and the guards at the entrance.
Once we finally made it in, we sat down and entered in our names and birthdays into the tablet in front of us. After we were identified, a fancy digital scroll with blurred out ink appeared on the screen. I'm assuming this is how they reveal it to us.
The speaker crackles before the words of our President are heard again. After explaining a bit about today, I hear a new voice on the speakers. They had an accent I couldn't quite place, but their English was pretty good.
"Hello everyone, this is Julius Kunai, I am the king of the Kunai species from the Karnavia planet. I apologize for not formally introducing myself earlier, but since we are at the last stage, I am excited to meet whoever decided to move forward with this arrangement. I appreciate the time and energy everyone here as put towards this, I promise not to hold you guys any longer."
He seems nice, but I still feel a little uneasy about him. After his announcement, there was a minute countdown on our screens until it reveals who your match is. I take a few deep breaths and look over to Celestia.
She gives me an excited smile with a shine in her eyes. I give her a half smile back, it's the most I can do as the anxiety is pulling at my stomach.
After a treacherous minute, the ink slowly faded into the name "Axafier Kunai". My heart dropped, but not that low surprisingly . At least I know him, a little bit I guess.
"Um Akira, why do I have two names on my page? Is this normal?" Celestia asks next to me. I look at her confused, does that mean she's gonna have two husbands? I laugh internally at the thought, she would probably like that.
"I mean I'm flattered, but I'm not sure what this means. Also who did you get?" She asks
"Unfortunately, I got someone. I was really hoping for no one, it's Axafier Kunai. Who are your lucky two men?"
"Oo okay at least he's fineee girl. I got Naveen Gile and Tomaz Payre." She says. I have no clue who those men were so I just nodded at her.
Why is Axafier's last name Kunai? Wasn't the king's last name also Kunai? Oh no, what if he's apart of the royal family and I have no say in this pairing. Dread fills my head and I feel trapped. I jump up from my seat and tell Celestia I need to use the bathroom.
I beeline for the bathroom which happens to be across the hallway on the farther side. As I'm walking to it, one of the grand doors near the sides open up and three guys walk through it dressed in fancy royal clothing. Just my luck. I make eye contact with man with familiar features and it happens to be Axafier.
Fuck, he is a royal.
He waves at me and my eyes open in shock and my cheeks turn red. I ignore his wave and walk faster to the bathroom. This whole situation is so confusing and I don't know what to do. I would like to decline the whole matchmaking, but a small part of me is intrigued and wants to me go through with this. How often does someone live in a timeline like this?
I splash my face with some water to bring myself back to reality. I can't be thinking optimistic, but the more I think about this, the more intrigued I get.
I would be one of the first few humans to interact with aliens and live on their planet, that would make history! I would be able to research so many new scientific things on their planet, assuming I'm allowed to. I can be a doctor for the other women there. With the alien technology, I can visit home too. It honestly doesn't sound like a bad option.
The only rock of an issue that stands in the way is that I don't want to have to marry a man I have no clue about. How would I get around that issue? I feel conflicted again and decide to head back to my room.
Along the way back, I run into Grystelle. "Hey! How is it going, did you match with anyone?" I ask.
"Oh I actually didn't match with anyone. What about you?" She says happily. Oh I wish that was me.
"Oh wow, I would have imagined you would match with someone, you're so nice. I matched with the man you introduced me to actually."
"Axafier? Woah, what are the chances! I guess we are gonna be real close sooner or later, assuming you accept the match." She responds. What does she mean by we would be close? She doesn't have a match.
"Huh what do you mean?" I ask.
"I'll have to explain another time, but Axafier is nice and he'll treat you well if that helps your decision any bit. I gotta get going, but I'll catch you later!" She says while being on her way immediately.
She left me confused but gave me kind words about Axafier which helped soothe my opinion on him a bit. Alas, I was still contemplating my decision. I wish I could call my family, but we haven't had any phones or anything this whole event to keep us private and disassociated from reality.
