The subtle changes in your body have been gnawing at you for days now. At first, you brushed them off—tiredness, queasiness, the faintest hint of dizziness in the mornings. But as they persisted, a thought began to take root, one that you couldn't shake.Maybe it's happening.
Standing in the bathroom, you stare at the small white stick in your trembling hand. The seconds stretch, each one ticking louder in the silence.
You glance down, and there it is—two little pink lines.
Positive.
Your breath catches, excitement swelling within you. You knew it, but seeing it confirmed still sends a rush of emotions through you. Still, you want to be absolutely sure. Grabbing your keys, you slip out to the local urgent care. The blood test takes a bit longer, but when the doctor comes back with a smile and a soft congratulations, it feels real in a way that makes your heart race.
Pregnant.
It's like a dream.
You're going to have a baby with Seokjin.
Your hands press to your stomach, as if cradling the life growing inside you. This is your secret for now—your special, beautiful secret.
When you get home, you decide to surprise him in a way he'd never expect. Baking has been your little language with Seokjin ever since you got married, and tonight, the message would be as sweet as ever.
The single bun is golden brown, sitting in the oven like a small, tender promise. You call Seokjin into the kitchen, your excitement barely contained as you watch him pad in, hair still damp from his shower.
"Hey, babe," you say casually, your voice dancing with mischief. "Could you grab something out of the oven for me?"
Seokjin looks at you, puzzled. "Sure. What is it?"
"Just a bun."
He opens the oven door and blinks, frowning at the lone pastry on the tray. "Why'd you bake just one bun?" His brows knit together, and the confusion on his face makes you bite your lip to stop from giggling.
"I don't know, why would I bake just one bun?"
He sets the bun on top of the cooling rack you have set out on top of the stove. "I don't know, seems a little selfish. One bun, maybe I wanted a bun. I mean, who bakes a single bun?"
"Such a good question, Mr. Kim. Why don't you tell me, what reason would I have for baking a bun in the oven?" you ask, eyes sparkling.
He turns to you, a hint of frustration in his expression as he glances back at the oven. "Jellybean," he sighs, "that's why I'm trying to figure out. Why... is there only one bun?"
You smile wider. "Think about it."
Seokjin stares at the bun for another second before it finally clicks. His eyes widen, and his mouth falls open as he turns to you. "Wait, you're—are you...?"
The laughter bursts out of you as you nod, and in an instant, he's across the kitchen, pulling you into his arms. "Oh my God!" His voice is a breathless mix of awe and joy. "You're pregnant?" His hands settle on your waist as if he's afraid to squeeze too tight, and you feel him trembling with excitement.
"I got you," you tease, feeling his heart pounding against you. "Finally surprised you."
"Surprised?" Seokjin pulls back just enough to look into your eyes, his own shimmering. "This is the best surprise of my life."
