The moment they stepped out of the airport, the thick, humid air of Japan enveloped Takemichi like a long-lost memory.
It had been years since he’d set foot on this soil—if he had ever been here at all, considering his fractured past.
His mind buzzed with a strange mixture of unfamiliar yet oddly comforting sensations. The distant hum of bustling crowds, the sharp beeps of car horns, and the flickering city lights felt both foreign and familiar, like a dream he couldn’t quite piece together.
But there was no time for introspection. The moment they exited the terminal, a wave of attention hit them, swift and relentless. People stared openly, whispering behind their hands. Some discreetly raised their phones, attempting to snap photos of him and the children.
The murmurs of curiosity and excitement were impossible to ignore, but Takemichi, used to such attention by now, kept his head low, trying to avoid the limelight.
Shijiro, his eldest, moved quickly to shield him. His small frame positioned itself between Takemichi and the crowd like a protective barrier, his eyes narrowing at anyone who ventured too close.
"Stay close"
Shijiro murmured under his breath, his tone carrying a seriousness far beyond his years, unlike his childish behavior which it wasn't that shocking.Despite his age, the boy carried himself with a sense of responsibility that made Takemichi’s heart swell with pride. His other children, sensing the subtle shift in atmosphere, fell in line behind their brother, forming a tight unit around their father.
