The air in the coffee shop felt thick with unspoken tension. Yumi watched Niki's face, his brow furrowed as he stirred his iced latte, the tiny ice cubes clinking against the glass. The warmth of their shared laughter from moments ago had vanished, replaced by a chilling silence that seemed to stretch on forever.

"So," Niki started, his voice hesitant. "What happened back then?"

Yumi swallowed, her throat suddenly dry. "Jungwon... he told me to back off."

"Back off?" Niki's voice rose an octave, a hint of disbelief in his tone. "Why?"

"He said... he said I was getting too close to you." Yumi's voice trembled, the memory of Jungwon's cold words still echoing in her ears.

Niki stared at her, his expression unreadable. "That's ridiculous," he finally said, his voice low and rough.

"He said we were spending too much time together, that it was making him uncomfortable."

Niki scoffed. "He was jealous."

Yumi's heart sank. "He wasn't jealous. He just... he just doesn't like it when I'm close to anyone else."

"He's controlling," Niki said, his voice laced with anger. "You deserve better than that, Yumi."

Yumi knew he was right. Jungwon had always been possessive, always wanting her attention solely for himself. But she had been so naive, so blinded by her own feelings, that she hadn't seen it until it was too late.

"I know," she whispered, a single tear rolling down her cheek.

Niki reached across the table, his hand hovering over hers. He hesitated for a moment, then gently took her hand in his. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver down her spine, a feeling she hadn't experienced in years.

"I'm sorry, Yumi," he said softly. "I wish I had known. I would have done something."

"It's not your fault," she said, her voice cracking. "I should have known better."

Their fingers intertwined, the silence settling around them once more, but this time it felt different. It wasn't the silence of awkwardness, but the silence of understanding, of shared pain and a newfound connection. Looking into Niki's eyes, Yumi saw a flicker of something else, something hopeful. Perhaps, just perhaps, there was still a chance for them to rebuild their friendship, maybe even more.

The cafe door chimed, signaling a new arrival. A familiar scent of cologne hit Yumi's senses, her blood running cold. She looked up to see Jungwon standing in the doorway, a smirk playing on his lips. She wasn't gonna have it, after leaving her alone for so long.

"Yumi," he said, his voice dripping with faux sweetness. "Fancy seeing you here."

Niki's grip tightened on her hand. This was not the end of their story, not yet. It was just the beginning of a new chapter, one that promised to be filled with both challenges and possibilities.

Yumi, however, felt a sense of dread wash over her. Jungwon was not a man who gave up easily, and she knew that he would try to reclaim his control over her. She couldn't let him, not anymore.

As Jungwon approached their table, a wave of confidence washed over her. She had Niki by her side now, and she wouldn't let anyone, not even Jungwon, take thataway from her. She met Jungwon's gaze, her eyes fierce and determined. This time, she wouldn't be a victim. She wouldbe a survivor.
