Maybelle was in a daze, her thoughts thickening to the point that she could not find a way through them. They twisted and turned inside her mind, like flames that stirred in a great fire. And when that fire finally died down to mere smoke, she found herself able to breathe again. Everything in time resumed, and she knew that she had to find Wyatt for only he had the answers to her questions.
She went to the closet to find dresses hung neatly on wooden hangers. There were a various amount, of different colors and designs, and she had picked a simple white one. It was even more surprising to her when she found that it fit perfectly, hugging her curves finely.
She padded down the hallway barefoot, only the noise from her steps resounded in the empty halls. When she went down the stairs, she found Wyatt in the living room sitting with his head in his hands.
He looked up upon hearing her footsteps, and a smile crossed his face for a bare instant before he motioned to the seat next to him.
"Sit," he had said, but May shook her head.
He frowned but it quickly disappeared when she said to him, "There is something I must say to you first."
He nodded for her to continue, and she took a deep breath before replying, "I want to thank you."
Wyatt was hesitant, "Thank me?"
"Yes, that is what I said," Her face fell into an emotion that could only be described as deep sincerity. She took slow steps towards him, "You are the only being on this planet that has come to understand me, you are the only one who has not given up on me, and the only one who has truly come to love me even without knowing me. And for that, I must thank you."
She sat down next to him and faced him, "And even though I do not understand this connection that we share, I can not deny in feeling it. I cannot deny in loving it, and therefor I cannot deny you. All I ask in return is that you show me how I came to be this," she said motioning towards herself, "And how my parents, who are not really my parents at all, have become who they are. I want to know everything, and I feel that only you can show me. Only you know."
Wyatt was smiling a cheeky ear-to-ear grin that only expressed the smallest of his happiness, "Then I will, but there is something that I must thank you for as well."
She was taken aback, "What could you possibly thank me for?"
If at all possible his smile widened, "For being you."
May could not help the matching smile that fitted her face, and atlas she answered by giving him a soft kiss to the lips. Only then did both of them know that they were meant to be, but only if they also knew that what was not meant to be was about to occur. For there was evil lurching beyond their woods, and with evil came a war so large that they would not be able to compensate for what was about to become lost.
