I woke up with her arms clinging to mine, her body pressed against me like she needed me. Not that I cared, but the whole situation made me smirk. Somehow, in the mess of last night, I'd ended up spooning her. Me, of all people. I should've shoved her off, but I let it slide.
Carefully, I slipped my arm out from under her and got up. She didn't move. Not surprising, considering how worn out she was.
I ran a hand through my hair and headed for a quick shower, letting the water run over me as I tried to clear my head. I wasn't used to this, having someone stick around, doing nothing. When I walked back into the room, the doctor was by the bed, checking her over. She glanced at me, then held up a tube of cream.
"She got a few stitches" she said, voice low. "Apply this daily, it'll help her recover faster and make sure she don't lift heavy things"
I took the cream, barely paying attention to it. My eyes were already on Chanel. She was still out cold, oblivious to everything. Typical.
"Sir..." the doctor hesitated, making me glance up "I found something else, inside her"
My brow furrowed as she handed me a small plastic bag. Inside, there was some kind of chip. the fuck?
I grabbed the bag, my grip tightening as I looked from the chip to Chanel. Anger was already bubbling under the surface.
"Where was it?" I asked, my voice sharp.
She swallowed.
"The back of her neck. I checked for other scars, but this one stood out. I don't think she even knew it was there
- it was just under her skin. I had to cut a little to get it out"I glared at the chip, the whole situation pissing me off. Someone had been messing with her, and she hadn't even noticed.
"Nothing makes sense" I muttered, shaking my head. Whoever put this in her had some serious nerve. Or was it supposed to be there?
"Keep this between us" I ordered.
The doctor nodded quickly and made her way out, leaving me standing there, staring at the chip.
I looked back at Chanel, still asleep and completely clueless. She'd dragged me into her mess, and now I was stuck with it. But whoever did this to her? They were going to regret it.
Big time.I pulled out my phone, dialing one of my most trusted men.
"Get over here and take this chip to the warehouse. Have Hunter run a trace and see what he can dig up" I commanded.
The second I hung up, I realized my feet were already leading me to the kitchen.
