Chapter 9 Choice

Opening my eyes I looked around at my surroundings.

It was honestly beautiful.

Nature could bring many joys in life to humans but for animals it's the opposite death, pain and savagery only awaits them.

The world is always filled with mystery I've read a book as a kid before what heaven would be like but never imagining it to be this empty.

All I saw was a clear blue and bright sky with clouds forming and grassy plains with a soft and slightly wet texture.

Finally deciding to lay down for hours and hours until deciding to get up I felt a touch on my right shoulder.

"Dad?"

"Yo it's Been a while Hiroki how have you be-"

Before he started to say anything I hugged him tightly.

"I missed you so much dad ever since you died!"

"I don't die easy as they say."

"But we're both dead aren't we that's why I'm here I never knew heaven would be so empty hey dad can we fly in this world?"

"Always with your imagination think what you want but don't always assume it's right."

"Talking like grandpa as always."

We talked for countless hours about stupid stuff like how he got angry at me for putting a toothbrush up my nose or the time my dad pranked me during my birthday with a creepy mask we were laughing it off just like a bunch of old folks in a gathering.

"Hey dad what do we do in heaven can we like summon beer and TVs or something?"

My dad laughs.

"Who knows if this is heaven or hell or maybe it's something else but don't you want to go back to your world."

"No no it's horrible all that's awaiting me is misery."

"I know son I know."

You knew? What you can watch me from the sky's now?

"Sure sure let's just go with that" saying that in a teasing manner

"I think it's better if you go back."

"No I'd rather stay with you we still haven't talked enough."

Dad looked at me with dissatisfaction.

"Time is running out Hiroki it's better to face your problems then to run away from it there is people who care about you."

"I have nobody they all betrayed me mom, sister, even my girlfriend Nao and Ayumu. if I could return to the past I would do cruel things to them mentally and physically I'm done being kind that gets me nowhere in life maybe it's better if I act like the foreigner and get all the girls."

"They have done horrible things to you that's for sure but you need to move foward in life and find true happiness even if you face hardships overcome them you are a strong man put your mind to it Hiroki don't become like that scum."

Hiroki becomes more irritated and angry towards his dad as he won't listen to his reasons.

"Dad changing isn't so easy I don't think I have the mental fortitude I'm just a pathetic loser I lost a fight trying to protect Nao who betrayed me and now I'm dead what else is there to move forward on!!"

Shouted Hiroki.

"Being good never really helped me in life always trying to be the best for my family and friends and yet I achieved nothing!"

Hiroki fell on his knees as he despairs.

"I don't want this anymore dad I'm just tired of life."
Hiroki couldn't hold back his tears.

Hirokis dad looked at him not with disgust but with a blank face he slowly approached Hiroki and sat down next to him while wrapping his arms around Hiroki to comfort him.

"I'll tell you this Hiroki I read a book that changed my perspective in life. Your actions isn't just about protecting someone it's about why you do it is it because your obligated to protect Nao? or is it because you initiated the fight out of envy and rage for all the things he's done."

"Life and humans can be so complex but that's why we are the smartest mammals you can either stay stuck in the past and let hatred consume you or you can become a better person not just for yourself but for others don't become cruel just because of their betrayal become what you want to be."

Hiroki looked at his dad realizing his heartfelt words urging him to finish his inspirational words.

"If you become what the foreigner is a playboy and a bully your no better then him your just a piece of shit and eventually all the negative things you've done will come back towards you only making your life worse."

"Make me proud son don't take the lazy route but I'm not forcing you stand up and tall."

They both stood up looking at each other Hirokis tears stopped as his dad lifts up his fists toward him to fist bump Hirokis chest.

A door emerges from the ground.

"You decide what to do I won't get mad I just want you to live a fulfilling life."

"Thank you dad.."

"Take care my son you still have ways ahead remember this I will always be there for you even in your hardest times just remember this I love you."

Hearing those words gave me the motivation to move on I looked back at my father one last time before opening the doorway and walking towards the light.
