(This is an AU where lapis and peri are just normal humans who grew up together) (This takes place probably in like middle school or something) (Also um if my writing shits sorry like I thought of this as entertainment earlier today)
Every year, our school had a running competition. The whole school would have to compete. Some much more enthusiastic than others. Lapis was a good runner, unlike Peridot. Peridot disliked doing things outside of her special interests in general. Lapis and peridot were always together. Peridot didn't quite know how, but she'd managed to become friends with her overtime, which was an achievement of its own. Peridot knew that Lapis wanted to win, or at least place in the top five. Although she wouldn't talk about her emotions, peridot was proud of herself for being able to decipher this.
*** "Lazuli! Why don't you just go without me!" "Why can't you just come with me?" She strained. "We both know my running abilities can't compare with yours." "I really do want to win this but... I don't want to leave you behind! It's not right.." "Lapis. You cannot restrain yourself from your important...things because you want to be with me. That doesn't even make sense, you know?" Peridot stated simply. "Whatever place you win, I'll be waiting for you at the end." "Oh.." a blush fell across lapis' face as. "I guess you're right, huh." "Yes, more than 50% of the time." Peridot said, but smiled up at lapis, blushing back. "I'll wait for you and... for more motivation, if you win I'll give you something.." Lapis' eyes widened with curiosity. "Wh-" The whistle blew, and lapis' response had to be shortened to that of a determined nod before she ran off, faster than ever before. *** Once the race was over, she was greeted with a third place medal and... "Lapis! I apologize because I- I didn't find...what I was looking for...I assumed there was a specific flower that I could give but I couldn't find it and-" Peridot's anxious ramble was cut off by Lapis' arms wrapping around her and pulling her close. And the big feeling that shot through her body with that. She laughed. "Peridot...the only reward I need is you!" "What?" "I mean uh...y-yeah, thanks for just being here...dude." "Y-yeah." *** Here's some shitty doodles i just did in relation to this silly oneshot
