As we walked home, my brother and his friends talked about the game earlier. Lyn and her group had already left because they felt shy to walk with us, plus they had a different route home, and the sun was starting to set.
We all agreed to meet again the next day to hang out and go to school together for enrollment.
"I really thought we were going to lose earlier. They were so rough! They threw some cheap shots, but luckily, I dodged one. Otherwise, I’d have been sitting on the bench for the rest of the game," Justine said, laughing but still a little annoyed.
"Too bad. We could’ve seen you cry!" Kayl teased.
"Shut up, Kayl! You’re terrible at playing too!" Justine shot back, irritated.
My brother Drix chimed in, "Both of you, be quiet. You’re both useless on the court." The two of them pouted, and my brother and his friends burst out laughing.
"I’m glad you came, Yuella. Your presence gave me a good mood for the game," Justine said, cutting in.
"Lyn invited me to watch, so that’s why I was there," I explained.
"Make sure to watch next time too. I’ll play even better," he replied with a wink. I just laughed, and I heard a slight grunt from behind me. I knew it was Von.
When we got to my aunt’s house, they all went straight to the sofa and continued chatting. I went to the kitchen to prepare some snacks for them.
While I was making juice, I didn’t notice Von standing next to me until I turned.
"Azure," I called out to him, and he froze, his lips parting slightly.
"Say my name again, please," he requested, his words making me frown a bit, but I still called him by his name.
"Azure," I said, and I saw him look away from me, a smile playing on his lips. I gave him a confused look, but soon, his face returned to its usual expression.
"Do you remember what I said at the mall?" he asked.
"When we were leaving?" I confirmed.
"Yeah, do you still want to come with me?" he asked carefully.
"Of course," I replied with a smile. I noticed a small smile from him too. I thought he’d leave after that, but he stayed by my side until I finished preparing the snacks. He even helped me bring them to the living room. Luckily, the others were too busy talking to notice that Von had brought some of the snacks.
Afterward, I returned to the kitchen to clean up. I didn’t expect Von to follow me again.
"Can I ask for your number?" he asked, holding out his phone. I figured he was asking because of our upcoming outing, so I gave it to him.
"Thanks," he said softly before heading back to the living room.
I grabbed some food for myself and decided to head to my room to rest.
Later that evening, Grandma knocked on my door, telling me it was time for dinner. I went downstairs, ate with them, but didn’t join much in the conversation.
As I lay down in bed, my phone lit up.
