Christmas and New Years came and went. After everything that happened with Jacob I completely shut everybody out for a few days. Before I knew it, it was a new year. I appreciated it, it means a fresh start.

I convinced my dad that I was okay with not pressing charges against Jacob. I don't wanna go through that right now. Yes, I have my family to support me, but it's my choice and I don't wanna feel like a victim. That's not my style.

"Okay where do you want me to put this?" I ask Akira.

I decided to come over and help her finish the baby's nursery. Everyday she looks closer to giving birth. She doesn't really have help so I wanted to pitch in as much as I can. Plus, being around her pregnant ass actually makes me feel a lot better. If it weren't for her, I'd be sleeping all day and night, being more depressed than I am.

Akira and I talked about what happened. She wanted to talk to Jacob and get to the bottom of his issues, she's too nice. I've completely wiped my hands of him. I changed my number and the people who have it are the people who matter.

"When I have this baby, I'm going to drink so much liquor..." Akira said making me laugh.

"Girl that's all you're thinking about." I say to her.

She nodded her head. "I had a dream I was swimming in a martini glass." She told me.

"Well you have two more months left. You got this." I encourage. "

"Yeah speaking of two more months, your prom is this year." She said clapping her hands. "Are you gonna go?" She asked me.

"I uh- I don't think so." I tell her.

She smacked her lips. "Girl stop. You were so excited about prom once upon a time." She said.

"Yeah that was before life started showing it's ass." I say shaking my head.

"I get it. Just think about it... Maybe someone will ask you." She said shrugging her shoulders.

"The last thing on my mind is a date." I tell her. "I'm done with men-- boys." I correct myself.

Akira sighed and sat down in the rocking chair in the corner.

"Vina I want you to know it gets better." She said to me.

"I know.." I softly agree.

I picked up my niece's teddy bear and started playing with it.

"I don't want you to do anything stupid." She said making me squint.

"Stupid? What do you mean?" I ask looking back at her.

She just stared at me, blinking a few times. I knew what she was referring to. Her assumption made me chuckle a little bit.

"I'm not suicidal." I tell her.

"Just checking," She mumbled. "I know how it feels to be alone or misunderstand." She said looking me in the eyes.

I put the teddy bear down and walked over to her. I sat down on the arm of the rocking chair.

"On Christmas, Devin called me..." I tell my best friend.

"Oh did he?" She asked pretending to be shocked.

"I know you gave him my number." I say shaking my head.

"Maybe."

"Anyways, we talked for a little bit, I didn't tell him anything but I ended up falling asleep. He never hung up. When I woke up, we'd been on the phone for almost 9 hours." I tell Akira. "I asked him why he stayed on the phone, he said he didn't want to hang up on me." I said.
