I tossed around in bed desperately hoping to fall asleep. My room was dark and cool from the air conditioner and my mind was filled with memories from the past.

A loud thud suddenly came from downstairs making me instantly sit upright in bed.

I quietly climbed out of bed and froze in my spot when I heard the clashing sound of glass shattering downstairs.

I ran over to my closet before I opened my safe and grabbed a glock from the small metal box. I quickly checked if the gun was loaded before I grabbed an extra clip along with a silencer before I cocked the gun.

I quietly left my room to go check if Carmella was still sleeping.

I have to be brave for her. Even if it feels like my legs might give in at any moment and even if it feels like I can't breathe anymore-

I'll be brave for her.

I roughly wiped my tears away before I carefully opened her bedroom door. I found her soundly sleeping in her bed so I quietly left the room again before I locked the door behind me.

I wildly looked around me in fear before I made my way to the top of the staircase. I saw four men standing in the center of my living room and my heart dropped into the pit of my stomach.

I nervously started to screw the silencer onto my gun before I aimed at one of them. I sucked in a deep breath before I pulled the trigger and just like that a body lifelessly tumbled to the floor.

I had no time to catch my breath as I've been spotted. Bullets instantly started to fly in my direction so I quickly hid behind the nearest wall.

I heard footsteps coming up the stairs so, I wasted no time to shoot at the man coming at me. He fell back down the staircase and I squeezed my eyes shut as I was backed up against the wall again.

"We just want to talk. We don't want to hurt you, Nevaeh." One of them yelled into the silence.

"Get out of my house!" I angrily yelled at him before I came out from behind the wall. I didn't think twice before I shot the last two men in my living room.

I jogged downstairs to look around the house and found that it was empty.

I froze in my spot when I heard a scream coming from upstairs. My blood ran cold when I realized that it was Carmella. My eyes went wide in shock and before I could stop myself I was running back upstairs.

"Carmella!" I cried out as I made my way up to her room.

If anything happens to my daughter I swear I will reign hell on this entire country.
