The next few weeks passed in a blur of work and schedules, but something had shifted. Zhang Hao and Y/N had found a rhythm again. Though their communication was still sporadic, they made sure to carve out moments for each other, whether it was a quick text or a late-night phone call. The sense of security they had built over time was now stronger than ever.
But today felt different.
Y/N was on her way home from the hospital, her mind buzzing from a hectic day, when her phone lit up with a notification. It was a message from Zhang Hao, but it wasn't the usual sweet check-in or voice note.
Zhang Hao: "Are you free this weekend? I have a surprise for you."
Y/N's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. A surprise? It had been so long since they'd had time for anything beyond their daily routines, so the idea of a surprise from Zhang Hao filled her with excitement.
Y/N's anticipation only grew over the next few days. She didn't ask for details, trusting Zhang Hao to plan whatever it was. When Saturday finally arrived, Zhang Hao sent her a message with an address and a simple instruction: "Meet me here at 6 PM."
Dressed in casual but pretty clothes, Y/N arrived at the location—an upscale restaurant tucked away in a quiet part of the city. As she entered, her breath caught in her throat when she spotted Zhang Hao waiting by a window table, dressed in a sharp, tailored outfit. He stood up as soon as he saw her, his smile radiant and full of warmth.
"Hao," Y/N breathed, walking over to him. "What is all this?"
Zhang Hao pulled out a chair for her before sitting down across from her. "I wanted to do something special. I know things have been tough for us lately, so I thought it was time for a proper date."
Y/N's heart melted at his words. "You didn't have to do all this, but... I love it. It's perfect."
Zhang Hao smiled, reaching across the table to take her hand in his. "You deserve it, Y/N. We deserve this."
The dinner was filled with laughter and warmth, a reprieve from the chaos of their usual lives. For the first time in a long time, they weren't just a doctor and an idol trying to balance their hectic schedules. They were simply two people in love, enjoying each other's company.
Zhang Hao told Y/N stories from his latest concerts, sharing moments that had made him proud, while Y/N spoke about the small victories she'd experienced at the hospital. The conversation flowed easily, as if no time had passed since they had last been together in person.
After dinner, Zhang Hao surprised her again by suggesting a walk through a nearby park. The evening air was cool, and the park was quiet, with only the soft sounds of nature around them.
As they strolled along a winding path, Zhang Hao suddenly stopped. Y/N looked at him, confused, until she saw the serious expression on his face.
"Hao?" she asked, her voice soft with concern.
"I've been thinking a lot about us," Zhang Hao began, taking both of her hands in his. "About how much we've been through and how hard it's been to make this work."
Y/N's heart thudded in her chest, unsure of where he was going with this.
"But no matter how busy things get, no matter how many miles are between us," Zhang Hao continued, his eyes locked on hers, "I don't want to lose what we have. You mean too much to me, Y/N. I want us to keep building this—together."
Y/N felt a rush of emotion swell in her chest. Zhang Hao's sincerity, the weight of his words, hit her all at once.
"I want that too," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I want us to keep growing, Hao. I love you."
Zhang Hao smiled, his face softening. "I love you too, Y/N. More than you know."
He gently pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her in a tight embrace. For a moment, they stood there in the quiet of the park, simply holding each other, letting the strength of their connection speak louder than any words.
As they walked back, hand in hand, Y/N realized something important. They had been through so much—both individually and together—but every challenge, every moment of doubt, had only brought them closer. Their relationship wasn't perfect, but it was real, and it was strong.
They returned to the restaurant, where Zhang Hao called for a car to take them back to Y/N's apartment. As they sat in the backseat, the city lights flashing by outside, Y/N leaned her head on Zhang Hao's shoulder, feeling a sense of peace wash over her.
This was what they had been fighting for: moments like these. The quiet comfort of being together, even in the midst of their chaotic lives.
When they reached Y/N's apartment, Zhang Hao walked her to her door. Before she could step inside, he gently cupped her face, his thumb brushing softly against her cheek.
"I know it won't always be easy," he said softly. "But as long as we're both willing to keep trying, I believe we can make it work."
Y/N smiled, her heart full. "We will, Hao. We'll make it work."
With that, Zhang Hao kissed her—soft and sweet, a promise of everything they would face together in the future.
As Y/N watched Zhang Hao walk away, disappearing into the night, she knew that this wasn't the end of their story. It was just the beginning of a new chapter—one filled with love, patience, and the unshakeable belief that they were meant to be together.
