I knew I was being extreme; I knew this move could backfire, but I had no other option. If I didn't do something, Jeff would end up marrying that man, and just the thought of it made something inside me twist painfully. It was desperation, I admit it, but I was also filled with a deep need that I couldn't stop. Besides, seeing the mix of emotions on Jeff's face—his confusion, his adorable anger, and those fleeting glances he gave me when he thought I wasn't looking—only pushed me further. And even though I knew what I was doing was risky, I couldn't stop.

The sound of his phone broke the moment. "Sorry, Bank, just a second. Please, don't believe anything he says," Jeff said quickly before stepping away to answer. I watched him walk off, his silhouette making me sigh, as always. I turned back to Bank, who was already glaring at me with suspicion.

"You came here to fight, didn't you?" he said, narrowing his eyes. "You're only here for the job, right?"

"Yes," I replied slowly, choosing my words carefully, "but not for the reason you think. I don't need his money. I've got enough for the both of us," I added with a smug smile, hoping he'd get the message. The suspicion in his eyes only grew, but before he could respond, I let out my pheromones—a faint scent that made him frown. I'd never liked using them to intimidate other alphas, but this time, I was willing to do anything. The alpha in front of me slumped in his seat, clenching his fists. I knew I'd won. He got up, muttering under his breath, and left.

Just then, Jeff returned. His face was marked with worry, and his gaze seemed distant, as if lost somewhere far away. I stood up immediately, concerned. "Is everything okay at home?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

"Aunt Suay is in the hospital," he murmured, not looking at me. It was as if his voice came from far away, drowned in the storm of emotions swirling around him. But then, as if snapping back to reality, his eyes scanned the café, searching for Bank. His eyes widened in panic. "Tell me he's in the bathroom," he said, his voice desperate, almost pleading.

"No... actually, he left," I answered cautiously, watching how his emotions shifted quickly from confusion to anger.

"What did you say to him? What lie did you tell this time?!" he shouted at me, his eyes blazing with fury. And even though his anger hit me hard, I couldn't help but think how beautiful he looked, even when he was mad. "I'm calling him," he exclaimed, pulling out his phone in desperation.

"Jeff, it's too late," I tried to reason with him. I knew Bank wasn't coming back, but more than that, I knew Jeff didn't really want him, even if he hadn't realized it yet.

"How do you know? You ruined everything! He was my only option!" he said, his voice breaking, his eyes clouded with tears.

"Your only option?" I repeated softly, feeling something break inside me. "But, Jeff..."

"Yes, my only option!" he cried out, biting his lip in frustration. "And now... now I don't know what to do," he murmured, his voice completely breaking.

A lump formed in my throat seeing him like this. I wanted to take his sadness, his desperation, and make it mine, but I didn't know how. "Jeff, I..." I started to say, but he continued.

"You said I hit you... and now I really want to... You ruined everything!" he shouted, giving small punches to my chest. His hands trembled as he hit me, as if his frustration and pain were so overwhelming they couldn't be contained. Tears started streaming down his cheeks, and each one felt like a dagger to my heart.

I couldn't take it anymore. I wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly. At first, he tried to resist, but soon he gave in, clinging to me desperately, as if finding the only comfort possible in that embrace. "I just want to get married... I just want to pay off the debts," he sobbed, his tears soaking my shirt as he trembled in my arms. "Why did you interfere?" he kept murmuring over and over, while I held him closer, gently stroking his hair.
