In the span of two hours, countless individuals had come knocking on the door. Was it a coincidence? I didn't think so. They were closing in on me, I was sure. When the fifth knock came, I was justifiably worried for both our sakes.
Tick tick tick
Mary Clementine unlocked too soon. I hadn't managed to hide; I was so done for.
"Angel?" a melodic voice "why are you trying to hide?"
Oh.
"Ava! Hi"
I embraced her, nearly making her lose her footing. "Hey" she buried her head in my shoulder "I was so worried" she chuckled in relief, wrapping her arms around me. I felt the knot in my throat start to loosen. Ava just made me feel so much calmer.
"So, is there something going on between you two or what?" Clementine snorted, wanting little to do with whatever she thought we were up to.
"Sure..." Ava spoke with distaste, turning to meet my eyes. "Angel what the hell are you doing? Where have you been all day? Even that douchebag Thorne was getting nervous..."
"Let's just...get out of here first, yeah? This place is starting to trigger my claustrophobia." I paused "The weird thing is- I didn't know I had it until now apparently." I joked, hoping for the two women to crack a smile.
"I hate you" Em said, but I knew she didn't actually mean it. "Just get out-" she couldn't help but chuckle.
"Alright" I snickered "Deep down you know you love me. Everyone does."
"Okay playboy..." she teased, releasing a sigh "I thought your heart only belonged to one woman... And she's in the room right now, so that's kinda rude on your end, don't you think?"
My cheeks flushed red. "Okay, for real now. Bye, Em. Take care"
"Stay safe, you moron!" I clicked the door shut, standing in the stairway, Ava being right next to me. I let out a long-suffering sigh, stretching.
"So, assuming you figured out the next riddle, where are we heading boss?"
"We just need to get to the greenhouse..." Ava raised a brow in curiosity, leaving the unspoken question hanging on her lips. "The catch is...we cannot be seen."
"Okay, then. That doesn't seem so difficult. I'd ask why, but I feel like I know better not to question you." Ava twirled her hair with her finger, a playful expression dancing in her eyes, like the flames that were her hair. "I just wouldn't be able to get that out of you... Unless you'll tell me?"
