"How about we focus on the fixing part and not so much on how we got in this situation?"

Kellerman Resort, New York State U.S.A 1964

"Now I'm not the man that does things for vanity but sometimes I can be very good at what I do." Were Johnny's morning greetings for the 2 men sitting at the table.

Johnny grabbed 2 chairs from the table next to them and brought them to where Rooster and Maverick had been enjoying breakfast. Baby took place elegantly while Johnny turned the chair with its back towards the table and sat on it, resting his arms on the chair's backrest.

"Good morning to you too" Rooster said with his mouth full. "To what do we owe the pleasure?"

"Cut it. I bring good news, marvellous if you want. I have spoken to my acquaintance and he will be here anytime so wrap it up boys, time to make an impression."

Both men left the plates and started looking after this mysterious friend that could help them go back home.

Johnny suddenly started waving his hand towards the 2 guests' back trying to get the attention of a man that just walked in.

Maverick and Rooster turned their heads in that direction. A young boy, way younger than Rooster was coming towards them, there was no way he was training at the best fighter pilot school, it was impossible to get in this young. Rooster was surprised to see Maverick choke on water at the sight of this man.

"Mike, thank you for coming, they are the pilots I told you about, meet Rooster and Maverick" this time Baby was the one talking.

"Mike, callsign Viper" As it was Rooster's time to shake hands, he finally understood why Mav looked so ill seeing this man. Viper was Maverick's instructor back in the day. Must be very weird to see your instructor as a student.

"So, I heard you guys crashed in the meadow. What happened?" Viper surely seemed way friendlier than Maverick remembered him.

We were passing by and run out of fuel. Needed to land immediately, but I think we hit a few trees and damaged our plane." Rooster was the one doing the talk, because Maverick wasn't very helpful, staring at this man and telling the truth was no option.

"So, you started flying soon? Or how can you not know how much fuel you need? As a pilot you should be way more careful, I hope you don't think to be fighter pilots, because I am one, I am training at Top Gun, you know, the best centre to train, and you guys sure don't have what it takes to be a Top Gun graduate."

And this quick, has Rooster's mind changed. Obviously, he is full of himself, Mav was right students at Top Gun in the 80s were something else but graduating Top Gun in 60s is like a whole new level of arrogancy.

"How about we focus on the fixing part and not so much on how we got in this situation?"

Finally Maverick spoke. And judging by his tone Rooster assumed it will be a long day between these two.

Leaving Baby and Johnny to their dance lessons, the 3 pilots went to the plane to see the damage. Thankfully, under the sun's light they could see that the damage was not as bad as they imagined. The front wheel needed a bit of fixing, some fuel and they should be set. The engine will be fixed by Mav and Rooster back at home, if it will be powerful enough to take them back, worth the risk.

Viper called some help and assured the two that they will fix the plane. He did not forget to mention again that he trains at Top Gun and he is the best pilot there is so he is also a mechanic, but given that his help was needed both Mav and Rooster kept their mouths shut. For Maverick leaving his jet with Viper, whom he wanted to announce that he is not the best pilot and they are also Top Gun graduates, was like getting pulled through a pool of thorns, but after he almost fought Rooster as well just to get to Viper understood that just the 2 of them don't have the tools needed nor the time so it is best to let Viper believe his lies and to fix their jet with his team.

At the arrival of Viper's team Mav once again almost passed out. This time, between the mechanics was a man that will be an air controller that certainly did not love Mav as he never respected the rules or commands received from him and instead flew by the tower to make him spill his coffee, not only once. To make sure Maverick won't get too involved into those man's present or to get back to his past, Rooster decided for both of them that it was best to return to the resort.
