Top Gun: Rooster Is Dirty Dancing

Chapter 5

It truly was like an end of a story

Kellerman Resort, New York State U.S.A 1964

Once returned at the resort Maverick and Rooster were welcomed by a list of activities. Being only close to midday and the options being bingo with elders or golf they were quick to choose the second one. They passed Johnny who was teaching a group of children with Penny, his colleague, and finally got to the golf course. Rooster couldn't remember much from the time he was here with his family, so having Maverick here with him meant a lot.

After his mother passed and he remained alone with his ambitions to become a fighter pilot just like his father, he expected Maverick to step in and help him get into Top Gun, given that Maverick was a Top Gun graduate and moreover, he was his father's best friend; the chaotic duo, Maverick and Goose, his wing man. But Goose died in a mission, in Maverick's arms so no wonder Maverick stood in his way so that Rooster will change his mind and choose another career. From that moment Rooster and Maverick hadn't spoken until they met at Top Gun, and made amends. Now Maverick is the father figure that Rooster never had.

You know, it is really reckless of us to be stuck in such a situation, but I am grateful to have you with me" Rooster wanted to express his thoughts.

"I'd say I'm sorry for putting us in such situation but I'm not sure it is actually that bad. I am also happy to be with you." Maverick adjusted his sunglasses an scored more points.

"Is there room for one more?" A familiar feminine voice interrupted Rooster's sad thought.

"Yes, please do join us, perhaps I will have a true challenge, not winning so easily." Maverick was pointing out how poorly Rooster played.

"I sure will be harder to beat. I also came to invite you to a dance competition, tonight. Johnny and I will go to the annual dance off and thought that considering you will leave soon anyway perhaps you want to see more of this time period." Baby indeed was very good at golf.

"We'd love to, what time?" Rooster inquired.

Not sure yet at what time we leave, but I will get you, do not worry."

Continuing playing, they discovered that while Baby was a Goddess at golf, Rooster managed to scare all the ducks from nearby. With a victory in plus Baby had to leave to get ready, so the 2 went to their rooms to wait for the pair to come get them to go support them.

Minutes after they arrived a knock on the door got their attention. Rooster opened the door and found a woman holding 2 suits.

"Hello, I'm Penny, Johnny told me to bring this to you, for tonight."

"Thank you, Penny, it is very kind of him and thank you for getting them to us." Rooster took the suits and, after he said goodbye, closed the door.

Both men got dressed in the 60s attire received and as if timed, when they were done a knock on the door was heard.

Baby and Johnny were wearing their dance clothes. Her dress' colours matched his suit. Such a beautiful pair. They got in Johnny's car and headed to the competition.

Rooster thought that he did not hear right, but as the second verse was sung, he realised that in the radio was indeed playing Great balls of fire by Jerry Lee Lewis, a very special song for him. Rooster looked at Mav and saw that he was already singing.

"I figure you like this song" said Baby, amused by Maverick's singing skills.

"Yes, and he also knows it. Come on Rooster we hadn't sung this song together since you were little. Let's recall that time when Goose was also with us."

Rooster really wanted to remember clearly that time but he only had glimpses of that time, so he decided that this is the moment to enjoy and have a memory that will actually remain so he started singing with Maverick in the backseat of Johnny's car.

Soon the 2 of them were joined by Johnny who also knew the lyrics and after him it didn't take long for Baby to join. The trip to the competition felt so short, having all 4 of them singing and dancing, as much as the space allowed, to Rooster's childhood song.

At the hotel they meet Penny who was waiting for them. She hugged Johnny and Baby after she had shaken hands with Rooster and Maverick.

"You 2 go and show them how good you are, and you 2 sirs follow me, we will stay together at a table in the public area. Johnny thought you will be more comfortable having someone to talk to." Penny sure was a talkative person, but as she said, having her here was nice.

Johnny and baby were the 5 and last pair to come on stage. I've had the time of my life started.

Penny got close to the men to be able to tell them "On this song the danced for the closing season, when they got together. Everyone started dancing and since then Johnny is a dancing teacher at the resort and is in charge of the dance field. They will make a show out of this competition."

Penny knew what she was talking about. Rooster could only wish to dance like they did. To their surprise Johnny jumped off the stage and started dancing with the public. So this is what Penny meant with " They will make a show out of this competition." Baby came to their table and took Penny while Johnny came to take Maverick and Rooster. They blended with the crowd and danced. Johnny and Baby got back on stage to end their number with the lift. Maverick and Rooster were really impressed by the lift, they even laughed comparing her with a plane. Penny on the other hand wasn't really impressed saying "They do this every time they have the chance, it's their signature move."

While dancing, Rooster spotted a piano in the corner of the room, in that moment he thought that this night is missing only one thing. He got to the piano in no time, waiting a few seconds for the music to end. He started playing the same song he heard earlier in the car. At first Maverick was taken aback, not knowing where the music came from but as Rooster started singing the lyrics Mav figured where he was. Maverick joined singing with Rooster, offering his hand to Penny, escorting her towards the piano. Once arrived, Baby came with Johnny, once again off the stage, and all of them sang Great balls of fire. This time Baby danced With Johnny, now not confined by the small space of the car, and every other guest either danced or sang with them. It truly was like an end of a story.
