Top Gun: Rooster Is Dirty Dancing

Chapter 6

"I am happy to call you friends."

Kellerman Resort, New York State U.S.A 1964

At dawn, the next day, they were on the runway of a small airport. Viper managed to fix the plane and brough it to the airport to assure that the 2 so called unexperienced pilots could take off safely.

They learned that their plane was fixed when they came back after the competition but both Maverick and Rooster were too exhausted by the whole dancing to fly, especially when they knew that everything could go wrong, so instead of taking more risks they decided to stay another night and at dawn to go and find out if they can return home.

"We really hope that we managed to elevate the situation, and that you enjoyed spending time here despite the unfortunate situation." Baby said.

"We did, I would've loved to meet under different circumstances. You guys are a lot of fun, and it was a pleasure to meet you. Even though it is very unlikely to meet again, if our wishes are fulfilled and we travel back to the future, I am happy to call you friends." Rooster said shaking Johnny's hand and hugging Baby.

Maverick did the same but with a smile he needed to add "Do not be so sure that we will never meet again. The future is unpredictable, perhaps in 10 years we'll have a time machine to use to come see you again. If not I cannot promise I won't fly like we did ever again."

"I would advise against flying the way you did, next time is no guarantee you will survive or that you will land here. Be careful not to discover the future accidentally." Johnny joined Maverick's joke making everyone laugh.

"We would say see you next time, but as you said, there are not many chances, so I think the only thing we can say is it is our pleasure to call you, our friends. Fly safe and get back home." Baby said her goodbyes.

"We don't know what safe means when flying. We know only one thing, we feel the need, the need for speed." The last part was said by both pilots as they got into the jet.

To make this goodbye memorable Johnny and Baby got into the car and took of the hood of the convertible, then aligned with the jet. As the jet gained the speed to take off Johnny drove alongside them. Baby rose from her seat waving goodbye as the plane lifted from the ground and the car reached the end of the runway.

"Are you ready to split this plane in two?" Maverick inquired as they reached the altitude.

"As long as you do not split us in two. My father trusted you with his life, you know I do too." Came Rooster's response.

Both of them hold their breaths, hoping that whatever happened last time will occur again. The pressure felt once again insupportable, their eyes started closing and the vision got foggier. The lightning hit once again the plane as the pilots lost their consciousness.

From the end of the runway, where they needed to stop, Baby and Johnny had watched the plane gain altitude and then it turned into a spark.

"You think they will get back home?" Baby asked her husband, still looking at the point in the sky where they disappeared.

"I'm sure they will. I will miss Rooster and Maverick. Such a dynamic duo." Johnny responded.

"So will I."
