A cat yowling a battle cry snapped Birdpaw back to the moment, she leaped out of the way as the black and white cat then landed to where Birdpaw was moments before, and Birdpaw lunged at the black and white cat landing on his side, she bit into his thick fur and as the black cat bit down savagely on her hind leg he ripped Birdpaw off him, she was thrown across the dark forest clearing and her back slammed against a rock she looked up and she was suddenly pinned to the ground by the black and white tomcat, she unsheathed her claws and raked them across the tomcats face, he yowled and leaped back, Birdpaw jumped to her paws and leaped onto the tomcat and barreled him over and then Birdpaw had him pinned on his side, she pushed his face into the ground and looked towards the four cats watching, one was Diamondclaw, his eyes narrowed and a claw mark scar that raked across his throat and next to him stood a dark brown tabby tomcat with white stripes and icy blue eyes, and they had a savage scar that ripped across their side, and sitting next to him was Minopaw watching intently.

And the fourth cat had silver fur and black swirl pattern across their fur, and scornful yellow eyes. And they had a ripping scar across their chest. "Come on Cutthroat! Don't let an apprentice beat you!" the silver tabby tomcat yowled at the black and white cat.

Cutthroat then rolled over, rolling Birdpaw off, Birdpaw leaped to her paws and spun around to face Cutthroat snarling, the bigger warrior leaped at her and with unsheathed claws they slashed at each other snarling with fury. Birdpaw opened her jaws and lunged for Cutthroat's throat but the tomcat then grabbed her own throat with unsheathed claws, Birdpaw struggled violently in his grip, then Cutthroat threw her to the ground and grabbed her snout and jaw and forced them open, wider and wider till Birdpaw thought he would rip her jaw off, she lifted her hind paws and she threw them up and smacked Cutthroat's face and then his hard grip on her jaw loosened and she chomped down on his paw, he yelled and jumped back, away from her. Birdpaw jumped to her paws and she clutched her jaw with a paw and opened it and moved her jaw around and then she whipped towards Cutthroat and leaped for his side, Cutthroat then whipped his head around and snapped down on her tail, Birdpaw yelped with pain and whipped towards Cutthroat's neck and she closed her jaws around his throat, he yelped and struggled, but the harder he struggled the deeper she sank her teeth, the silver tabby then yowled, "Enough!" and Birdpaw let go of Cutthroat's throat and backed away and turned an expectant expression to Diamondclaw's pleased face.

"You've done well Birdpaw, making it seem Cutthroat had an advantage when he took your tail gave you your chance to get to his throat, very well executed on what we practiced Birdpaw," Birdpaw lifted her chin and held her tail high at Diamondclaw's praise, Cutthroat snarled furiously behind Birdpaw.

"What about me? I almost ripped her jaw off, I should get some credit." Cutthroat growled, the silver tabby looked at Cutthroat with narrowed eyes, "But you didn't, you allowed an apprentice to beat you, I thought I trained you better than that." Cutthroat snarled again and glared at Birdpaw.

"Now, Minopaw needs a challenge, and will not be fighting someone beaten by someone smaller than them," snarled the dark brown tabby, Cutthroat hissed and stalked towards the silver tabby and sat down next to them, growling and glaring at Birdpaw.

"Why not Minopaw and Birdpaw fight, Frostspine?" Diamondclaw suggested, Frostspine nodded looking at Minopaw, Frostspine flicked his tail at Birdpaw and Minopaw stood up and walked towards Birdpaw lashing his tail.

"Tomorrow night we will introduce someone new who has been training with us under Hollowstalk, they go by the name of Hopepaw.'' The silver tabby said, "Now Birdpaw and Minopaw. We'll have to postpone your fight," Diamondclaw said, and he lifted his head towards the sky, turning barely lighter.

Birdpaw opened her eyes, she was in her moss nest in the apprentices den, she lifted her head and looked out the entrance of the den and saw the sun just rising over the distant trees.
