No one could blame Jolene Dalton for being so standoffish when it came to relationships, friendships, and emotion of any kind. After all, everything she's been through has lacked so much love to the point where she only ever found comfort in the disturbed.
Jack Torrance from the Shining has always been Jolene's favourite fictional character. This is a man that no one should look up to. He slowly lost his mind, isolated in a hotel until he met his demise. Jolene saw part of herself within that.
She has always had problems with control whether it be her anger, her snark, or her unique abilities. These too stemmed from her disdain of love.
Jolene may be able to fit in with a crowd that is always being watched, she too being one of the few girls in Beacon Hills High School that everyone had their eye on, but she always knew that there was one small switch in the back of her mind; one small impulse that made her dangerous.
Like Jack Torrance, Jolene constantly feels stuck in situations and it drives her mad. Jolene has a habit of hitting her head with her hand when she feels overwhelmed, she clenches her fists or digs her nails into her palm when she doesn't understand something, and Jolene has a difficult time accepting things to the point where she can get violent if she's too emotional. Jolene has never hurt anyone with these habits, she's only ever been the victim of an equally vicious father.
Mick Dalton, Jolene's father, has always been a caring and loving parent, the fault was the cards he was dealt in life. Mick got a woman pregnant at a young age and dumped Jolene on him when he was only nineteen. This woman ran off, never to be seen or heard from by the Dalton family again. This is what turned Mick to alcohol.
