EMMA'S POV:
Mr. Walker was on the porch when I arrived back home. He had a red solo cup in one hand and was sitting on a lawn chair.
"Hi," I said weakly. He looked mad and slightly drunk.
"Where have you been?" He growled and I shrunk back into the yard, ready to run.
"I slept over at a friends house," it wasn't a complete lie.
"What friend?" He asked, standing up and stumbling into the yard. I began to stutter and walk backwards.
"Um, her name's Charlotte," I had to think quickly.
"You're lying" He roared and pointed at the door. "Go to your room."
"What did I do?"
"GO!" I huffed and ran inside. When I got to my room, I hid in my closet under piles of clothing. I was really hoping he wouldn't handcuff me to the bed again. Mrs. Walker had passed away and with her gone, Mr. Walker can do what he'd like. I could hear Mr. Walker open the door to my room. He wasn't the brightest while drunk, but I wasn't going to depend on that.
"I'm going out!" he declared and left my room. I stayed put in case it was a trap. The front door slammed and the car started and drove away. I sat up and looked around. The last time I hid under my clothes I was thirteen and had forgotten my curfew and he was drunk, even more than today. I had a food stash (pretty old), my old stuffed animal Elephant, a suitcase and a wallet. I opened the wallet and inside seemed to be all my Christmas, Easter, birthday and earned money. I pulled out the old running away plan and it all made sense. I had been saving up and planning to runaway when I was old enough. Now that Mr. Walker was out, I could start to plan and pack.
