The next day Grillby and Papyrus let Sans sleep in and opened up the restaurant. Grillby left Sans some clean clothes to change into on the bedroom desk. He also left a ketchup bottle on the kitchen table in case he was hungry when he woke up.

The customers that came in would often ask why the guards were running around two days ago with Grillby and Papyrus. Grillby just told them that Sans got lost but didn't share the details. He assured them that everything was alright now.

Some time just before lunch Sans finally peeked into the restaurant. He had put the clean clothes on and had found the ketchup bottle which was now in his hand. He quickly and quietly went over to Grillby who was behind the counter, completely unnoticed.

Grillby almost tripped over Sans when he turned to get someone's order.

"Oh! Sans, you're up." Grillby exclaimed, surprised. "Do you need anything?"

Papyrus noticed Grillby looking down and went to investigate.

"i just um...just wanted you to know that i want to look at the shrapnel so uh...don't worry if 'm passed out in the room." Sans said, a little nervous.

"SANS! NO PASSING OUT!" Papyrus said, catching the other two's attention.

"uhh. 'm not plannin' on passing out paps. but, i wanna take a closer look at it...i'll try not to touch it."

"Maybe you should let Papyrus stay with you while you look at it." Grillby suggested.

"y-you don't need to! i'll be really careful."

"I'M COMING ANYWAY!" Papyrus declared.

"but...don't you need to help grillby?" Sans asked.

"WHAT IF YOU NEED HELP INSTEAD? GRILLBY HAS THIS HANDLED. I'M COMING AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME." Papyrus stared at Sans with his hands on his hips.

"...kay c'mon"

Sans and Papyrus went back into their bedroom and Grillby continued running the restaurant.

Once they got inside their bedroom, Papyrus climbed onto the edge of the bed. Sans put his ketchup bottle on the bookshelf and picked up the towel with the shrapnel. Papyrus watched him closely as Sans carefully unwrapped it and sat down on the bed next to him.

Sans had never closely looked at the shrapnel till now but it looked just like a regular scrap of metal. It was a dark silvery color and he could make out a faint hint of red when the light hit it. He knew that the red shine was the result of DT.

He still had so many questions for Gaster. Like, why does Gaster want him to fight those anomalies? Who were they? What other void powers did he have?

"paps, do you feel anything when you get close to it?" Sans asked, looking at Papyrus.

"NO. WHY? DO YOU?" Papyrus said, tilting his head.

"yeah...it's...i donno. it's like...pulling? kinda like...gravity magic?"

"...YOU WANT TO TOUCH IT AGAIN DON'T YOU?"

Sans looked away and back at the shrapnel which was all the answer Papyrus needed. Papyrus frowned but he had guessed that was what Sans wanted to do when he tried to do this alone. He also knew how curious Sans could get and it was hard to stop him when he wanted to know more.

Sighing, Papyrus spoke again. "I WON'T BE ANGRY IF YOU TOUCH IT. JUST...BE CAREFUL. I DON'T TRUST THAT THING."

"...really?" Sans looked back at Papyrus with a questioning look. "you won't...you won't freak out again?"
