Raven's Perspective
The fog creeps cold and dense around me, and I stand in a world between reality and dream. Everything is blurry, but the voices are clear. They call my name—or at least the name I have always believed belongs to me: Raven.
“Adira!” I suddenly hear another voice. Strong, desperate. Confused, I remain still. Adira? I don't know this name. Who is that?
Then a picture appears before me. Not the fog, but a vivid memory that tears my heart apart every time. It’s the day everything fell apart. I see myself as a little girl, in the midst of my family. Finnian, my twin brother, stands right next to me, his hand tightly in mine. Kairo, our older brother, stands a bit farther ahead, determined and strong, yet his eyes betray the fear he tries to conceal.
“Adira, run!” Kairo calls out again, his voice nearly breaking. But I do not move. This name... it paralyzes me. My gaze shifts to our parents, whose faces seem chiseled from stone, cold and unyielding.
“They have to go,” my father says, his voice so emotionless that it sends a shiver through me. “She’s a danger. No one must know what she is.”
“Finnian and Kairo have to be kept away from her,” my mother adds quietly, but her words burn into my memory. “She must be alone. It’s the only way to control her.”
I want to say something, to scream, to protest, but my throat feels like it’s been constricted. Finnian clings to me, his eyes wide with fear. He doesn’t understand, just like I don’t. Why... why do they want to separate us?
Suddenly, his hand slips from mine, and everything happens so fast. I am pulled away from my brothers, away from everything I know. Finnian screams my name—no, that strange name: “Adira!” But I can do nothing.
Kairo turns around, trying to reach me, but the adults’ hands hold us back. “Don’t let her go!” he cries desperately, but it’s too late. They want to take me away, and I don’t understand why.
The fog swallows the image, and I am left alone, my heart full of questions that will never be answered.
My breath comes in gasps as I awaken from the dream. My heart is pounding in my chest, and I need a moment to realize that I’m in my room. It was just a dream—but the memories it brought forth are real. So real that my body is still trembling.
Adira. That name haunts me. It sounds familiar yet so foreign. Why did I hear it in my dream? And why do I feel a deep connection to this word, even though I’m sure I’ve never called myself that?
---
"Focus, Raven." Lady Elara's voice breaks the dense silence in the room. Her eyes are fixed on me, calm and patient, but I feel the weight of the responsibility pressing down on me.
The purple energy pulses beneath my skin, like a beast that has been awakened and now impatiently awaits release. I feel it spreading, as if it’s reaching for every inch of my body, trying to take possession of me.
"Let it flow, but don't force it," she advises me. "The energy must flow through you without resistance."
I nod, trying to follow her advice, but something feels different. The purple power grows within me, stronger than ever before. It no longer feels like a wave rolling through me—it’s a flood, a flood too great to control. Panic rises within me as I realize I'm losing control.
"It’s… too much," I whisper, my hands trembling. Sparks begin to leap from my fingers, small bolts electrifying the air around me.
"Raven, let go!" Lady Elara suddenly calls out, her voice sharp and urgent. But it’s too late. The energy spirals out of control, and it’s becoming more intense.
