"Maula mere maula, mere maula..." The melody wrapped around me like a warm blanket, pulling me into some dreamy haze. The mantras in the background made it feel like I was in another realm altogether. And then, just like that, reality slapped me back when the applause grew louder. I blinked hard, trying to shake it off. Sameer's stupid smirk was waiting for me as I turned.

Ah, damn.

Of course. Sameer had played that song in my ear through the AirPod. I cleared my throat, desperate to act normal, but when I turned again-there he was.

My breath caught.

His dhoti clung to his muscular legs like a second skin, showing off his every stride as he moved, heading to his chamber to prepare for the next ritual-the havan at 8:15. It was impossible to look away.

I tried to steady my pulse, knowing that he would soon be crowned at 10:00.

Then, at 10:30, he would step into the crowd, his transformation complete. Before I could drift too far into that thought, Sameer pinched me.

"Oww, what the hell is wrong with you?" I shot him a glare.

"You're drooling," he whispered, laughing under his breath.

I rolled my eyes dramatically, but inside, my heart was still racing.
The family began leaving, and we followed with the bodyguards close behind. I guess the soon-to-be king had already slipped into his chamber, probably with his cousins. We stood just outside his room while Vidhaan led the others in the opposite direction.

"You two will stay with Rudransh sir," Vidhaan stated as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

I frowned, completely lost. "Rudransh who?" I inquired, feeling irritation creep up my spine.

Vidhaan looked at me like I'd grown two heads. Before he could even start explaining, Sameer snorted."I'll handle her, Vidhaan. You go," Sameer said, still giggling like an idiot.

Vidhaan rolled his eyes at me, which only made my irritation grow. Who is this Rudransh, and why am I always the last to know everything? If I weren't an officer, I swear, I'd have punched both of them by now.

"Idiot, Rudransh Singh Rajvansh is the one you were eye-f*cking moments ago," Sameer said, smacking the back of my head. The bodyguards stiffened but stood straight as if they were used to our banter. But the way their faces twitched said otherwise-they'd never seen pieces of work like us.

I shot Sameer a deadly look. "Teri ma ki-"

I was ready to unleash some colorful words when I spotted the Queen and her sister-in-law walking toward us. I froze, my face still scrunched in a pout, mid-profanity. Great timing.

Sameer grinned like he'd won some invisible battle, eyes twinkling with mischief. Waewaewae.

I rolled my eyes so hard I thought they'd get stuck. Adjusting my posture, I quickly tried to look... respectable. Not that it was working.
