Dhriti and Sameer crept down the dim hallway, their footsteps barely audible as they pressed their guns closer to their bodies, senses alert. Shadows stretched across the corridor, and the faint scent of stale air lingered. Each glance over their shoulders was sharp, as if they were both expecting something-or someone-to emerge from the darkness.
"There are only two rooms at this end," Sameer whispered his voice barely a breath.
"You take that one, I'll check this one." His gaze flicked to Dhriti, his eyes holding a seriousness that mirrored her own.
Dhriti nodded in silent agreement, her fingers hovering over the cold door handle before she pushed it open, every nerve alert. She scanned each corner, her eyes sweeping through the room, taking in every shadow, every detail. No movement, no signs of life. She hooked her head over her shoulder, signaling to Sameer across the hall that the room was clear.
Sameer gave a short nod, stepping deeper into his own room, his eyes darting from corner to corner, even sweeping into the attached bathroom. Still, nothing. They had hoped-no, expected-to find something, anything. But the silence was unnerving, almost suffocating.
Dhriti glanced at him, her face tight with frustration.
"Then where the hell is Karthika?" Dhriti hissed, her voice tight with tension as her forehead creased, worry etched in every line. Just as her words hung in the air, a soft, almost imperceptible shuffle echoed behind them-a whisper against the silence.
They spun around in unison, and there she was. Karthika, casually dabbing her hands with a tissue, looking entirely unbothered.
"Karthika, where the hell were you?" Sameer's voice was low, almost a growl, his gaze sharp.
Dhriti stepped closer, her eyes scanning Karthika from head to toe, searching for any sign of injury. "Are you alright?" she asked, her voice softening with concern as she reached out to inspect her.
Karthika looked back at them, her brows knitting together in confusion. "Yes, I'm fine! What's with you two? What could've possibly happened to me?" she asked, glancing down at herself as if expecting to find a reason for their worry.
Sameer exhaled, the tension draining from his face as he dropped his shoulders. "Thank goodness. We were about to lose our minds," he admitted, his voice a mix of frustration and relief.
Dhriti's relief melted into frustration as she locked eyes with Karthika, her tone sharp. "What were you thinking, coming to this abandoned corner without letting anyone know?"Karthika rolled her eyes, barely phased.
"I *did* tell someone! I told Vidhaan sir. He was supposed to come with me. And this was the nearest restroom I could find," she huffed, waving the tissue around as if it justified her absence.
Sameer and Dhriti exchanged a look, a tired sigh slipping out from both. Sameer shook his head, his gaze still fixed on her.Dhriti crossed her arms, her tone exasperated but laced with care.
