The crew around her hurried into action, preparing for a real fight. She had hoped they could lure Morgan into a false sense of security, but now, it was clear that battle was inevitable. She glanced toward the horizon where Morgan's main ship remained, still too far out to engage. For now.

Her heart was pounding, her mind racing through every possible scenario. The cannons were loaded, and the crews on both ships stood ready. There was no turning back. She just hoped the delay would be enough to get them in position before Morgan himself arrived.

As the four enemy ships advanced, Marina's mind buzzed with strategies. But in the pit of her stomach, she knew the real battle wasn't just against Morgan's fleet—it was with herself, with the decision she knew she had to make when the time came.

The night fell thick and heavy, a cloak of darkness lit only by the distant flicker of lanterns and the gleam of the moon on the water. Three of Morgan's ships had closed in, encircling Jack and Marina's vessels like predators ready to strike. The pirates aboard their ships scrambled into position as Marina's voice rang out above the chaos.

"Prepare for battle!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the tumult.

The sound of cannons being loaded, swords unsheathed, and shouts of preparation filled the air. Marina stood at the helm, her heart pounding, trying to keep her focus amidst the rising storm. But beneath the adrenaline of the moment, a heaviness pressed on her chest—the weight of everything that had led to this night. The final confrontation with her father was near, and the thought of what she would have to do twisted painfully inside her.

Across the deck, Jack had spotted her, standing alone at the helm. His gaze lingered, and in a moment of reckless determination, he grabbed a rope and swung from his ship, landing on her deck with practiced ease. It was dark, the chaos of battle all around them, but his focus was on finding her.

"Jack!" Marina shouted in surprise as he approached, dodging a frantic crew member rushing past her. His face was tense, illuminated briefly by the flare of a cannon shot.

He stopped just a few feet away, breathless from the leap and the chaos. His dark eyes were serious, with none of the usual mischief.

Jack caught Marina's gaze amidst the turmoil, his voice earnest and strained. "I needed to tell you I'm sorry. For everything."

Before he could continue, Marina cut him off, her voice firm despite the chaos around them. "Jack, it's not the time."

Jack's eyes searched hers, his own reflecting a mixture of regret and resolve. "I needed you to know. It's important to me that you hear it."

With the noise of the battle escalating around them, Marina stepped closer, her eyes filled with a mix of desperation and sorrow. The shouts of the crew and the clash of swords seemed distant as she spoke, her voice trembling. "All my emotions are a mess. I've been feeling so much, I've gone numb." Marina reaches out to hold his hand before taking a breath, her eyes locking onto his with a profound sadness, "I love you, Jack, but I don't know how to handle it. I don't even know if I'll ever be ready for these feelings. Once I kill my father, it'll wreck me even more. I don't know if I'll ever recover from it."

Jack reached out, cupping her face gently with his hands. They pressed their foreheads together, their breaths mingling as they shared this moment of intimacy amidst the chaos.

"You don't have to do this alone," Jack murmured softly. "Let me handle it. Let me take care of it."

Marina shook her head, her voice resolute despite the tears streaming down her cheeks. "No, Jack. It's my fight. I have to be the one to do it."

In a sudden, passionate movement, Marina pulled Jack into a fervent kiss, pouring all her conflicted emotions into that brief, intense contact. As she broke away, she glanced at him one last time with a mix of love and sorrow, "I'm sorry Jack", she said before turning and walking off, her silhouette swallowed by the chaos of the battle.

Jack stood there, his heart aching as he watched her go, the weight of their unsaid words and unresolved feelings pressing heavily on him. The battle raged around him, but in that moment, all he could think about was Marina—her struggle, her pain, and the love that had somehow become both their greatest strength and their deepest wound.
