Hours seemed to pass quickly as the two allies finally found themselves stopping, hiding in the trees near the cornucopia.

"I- I can't let it all be for nothing. Morgan, one of us has to get out. I- I can't let Freya and Koa... and Fawn be for nothing. They.. they can't be forgotten like everyone else." Niamh says shakily, wiping the tears from her cheeks.

"Why?" The older boy asks. They both knew only one of them could get out and they both knew they wanted it to the other tribute.

"I made a promise." The district 4 girl answers, looking down at her faded friendship bracelet. Her thoughts filled with the memories of her best friend and the promise she made.

It was only when Morgan saw her gaze towards the cornucopia which now occupied the girl from 1 and the boy from 2, did he realise what she was about to do. He may never tell the girl how he feels but he will protect her if that's the last thing he does. "You stay here." She whispers to him.

"What's your plan?" Morgan whispers to the girl as he sees her taking a step closer to the cornucopia where the two remaining careers guarded. It was only Aurelia and Ryder left.

"Revenge."

With that, the girl found herself running out from the trees. It took no time for Aurelia to spot her and call the other career. Niamh can't help her scream of terror when Aurelia's knife hits her in the stomach. The piercing pain as the wound was enough to kill her but that didn't stop her from pulling the dagger out, blood seeping onto her torn up tank top.

Aurelia ran towards the girl however it was too late when Niamh grabbed the girl and her very own dagger was slit across her throat.

Her eyes widen as she lets out a scream of pain which is quickly cut off before Aurelia falls to the muddy grass.

As the canon goes off, Niamh finds herself being pinned against the side of the cornucopia. In front of the her was the boy from 2, Ryder. He held a knife to her cheek with an almost menacing smirk. Almost immediately she recognised the knife as one of the ones that had killed Fawn.

"I'll be taking this." He grins at the younger girl, snatching her machete and throwing it a few feet away from them, out of reach.

"Where's your little prince, huh?" Ryder mocks, not realising that at that moment Morgan was running out from the trees and towards the girl he knew he had to protect. "Bet you're wishing you joined us now, princess."

Blood dripped from her cheek as he holds the knife harshly to her. Terrified, Niamh struggled against the boy. It seemed no use as tears fall down her face when suddenly Ryder is being pulled off of her by the scruff of his neck.

Standing over the boy is now Niamh's outraged district partner. "Don't touch her!" Morgan glares. In his anger, Niamh can see him through tears aiming the sword directly through the tributes chest.

Blood pours past his lips as the canon goes off. There was only two.

Turning to look at the girl before him, Morgan could help but pulling her into a hug against his chest. The district 4 boy got reaped thinking he could win and now there was only two of them, he realised he was too far gone to ever let her die.

Morgan knew he couldn't live without the girl, he knew that the moment they spoke on that train. He knew that when he read up on a book of poisons. He knew that when he got the nightlock berries. He knew if it came down to just them two, he couldn't let her die.

"Please, Morgan. I- it hurts too much... I- I need you to finish me off.. please." Niamh begs through tears as she holds her stomach wound.

"I- I can't.. I can't do that to you, Ne." The boy argues. He knew he should put her out of her misery but Morgan knew he couldn't live with her gone. He'd gone through too much for that girl to just let her die. He had one thought as he held the crying girl.

The berries.

Whispering against her hair, he almost forgot about the cameras that surround them. "Ne, y'know I love you, right?" He murmurs quietly, not wanting to hurt the girl with what he's about to do. "Like love you love you. More than I ever have before which is why I can't live without you. I- I can't be the one to live... you mean too much to me, Ne."

"You love me?" Niamh murmurs, unknowing of what he's about to do.

"More than anything which is why I have to say." Morgan continues, slowly taking the berries from his pocket, "I'm sorry, Ne."

She looks up at him confused, cheek and stomach still bleeding. Her eyes widen when she sees him eating the berries. Before Niamh can so much as stop him, her district partner is collapsing to the floor.

"Mo- Morgan?" She whispers, collapsing to her knees beside him. "Please, talk to me, anything, please." Niamh begs of him, terrified for the boy she'd grown close to for close to three weeks.

"I- I'm sorry.." he coughs, lips stained by the berries, "I- I just... I don't wanna live without you. I- I can't.. can't live without you. I'm sorry.. I don't wanna hurt ya.. I love ya, Ne. You've won. Remember me?"

Tears fall down the girl's cheeks, kneeling beside the boy and wishing nothing more than to take his place. She sobs against his chest, practically begging for some miracle to save him.

"Plea- please, don't do this to me. I- I can't.. I need you, Morgan." Niamh sobs, her voice shaken. She knew she didn't love him how he loved her but a part of her wished she did. "I- I love you." She murmurs against his chest.

Niamh only looks up when she feels all movements in him stop. The once vibrant and colourful arena seems to fall apart around her. It looked more like a derelict war zone which in a way the arena was.

"Victor of the 69th Hunger Games, Niamh Murphy of District 4!"

Caesar Flickerman's voice surrounds the now empty arena and Niamh feels her heart break. It was all real, they were all gone. It was only her left and she knew come this time next year, they'd all be forgotten. She couldn't let that happen, she couldn't let history erase them like with all the other tributes who'd died in their own derelict arenas.
