Comfy

It had been four days since I moved to Gotham City. Nothing was out of the ordinary just yet, but I had made some good friends at work and learned to adapt to my surroundings. My co-workers promised me some of the chaos and excitement that the city has to offer. I didn't want to expect the worst from Gotham City just yet, especially since I had been fitting in pretty well.

Leah chuckled, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Oh honey, you're going to need to learn the ropes if you want to survive here." Tom nodded, playing along. "She's got a point. Gotham isn't like New York-it's a whole other kind of hell. Nothing ever really gets done here. Crime, riots... you name it." Tom and Leah are my co-workers, we've gotten along really well over the span of four days since I've moved in. They are like my parents, teaching me how things are done around here and there.

"Haven't you heard? The city's most wanted villain is set to be transferred and locked up in our asylum next week." Leah gossiped. "Really? That's news. Do you think it'll stick this time?" Tom said, intrigued. "I doubt it. No one has ever cured that madman. He's completely lost his sanity; I bet he'll escape just like last time," Leah sighed.

"Who?" I asked, confused. "The Joker, you idiot!" They both exclaimed.

I was taken back by their sudden outburst. Familiar with the name, I asked, "Oh, you mean the one on my patient list? The funny-looking clown?" They both just stared at me in horror and shock, almost as if they witnessed a freak accident.

"The Joker.." Leah said, trailing off. "On your list...?" Tom continued her sentence as their mouths were wide open in disbelief. "THE JOKER ON YOUR LIST?!" They both exclaimed again, quite literally busting my eardrums as I sat there bewildered while sipping my cup of coffee, which had already turned warm. "Yeah... what about it...?" I asked.

"Oh..." Leah said

"My..." Tom said

"God." they both said, their tone shaky and breathy, unable to process what just escaped my mouth.

Leah leaned in closer, a mix of concern and empathy on her face. "The department can't be serious. You're a newcomer psychiatrist! How could they assign the Joker to you?! This is... this is insane!" Tom nodded vigorously, his expression a mix of disbelief and deep concern. "I mean, the Joker is notorious for his unpredictability. No one has ever managed to handle him. "

As they continued to tell me more about this.. Joker madman, I began to panic. What if I messed up? What if he got to me? What if things didn't turn out as planned? This was my first time stepping into Arkham Asylum, and I was greeted with this kind of news?

I swallowed hard before letting out a forced chuckle. "It won't be that hard... right?" I whispered, taking another sip of my coffee. They both sat there in disbelief. "You're brave, (y/n)," they sighed, a mix of sympathy and awe.

What a great way to start my morning, I sighed, jolting up from my seat and getting up from the table. "Well, no time to waste-I've got some reports to write," I said, grabbing my files and documents. I tossed away the cup of coffee I had earlier, which still had a bit left in it.

The asylum had a small area for tea and lunch breaks, complete with a coffee machine and paper cups. I was grateful for it; it was our little spot to gossip and chat during our breaks. I didn't bother to stay back with them a little longer as I've already heard enough of this Joker guy.

Overall, I've gotten more comfortable around my workplace now.
