THE HOME THE man nick had befriended, strand was his name, was a very large home. modern and something you'd seen in a movie, colette let out a huff as she leaned against the kitchen counter. looking to her mother who was looking through the fridge, a working fridge.
colette played with the rings on her fingers, her mother gently shut the fridge leaning against the cool material as she popped a grape into her mouth. worry in her eyes as she looked to colette who felt guilty, she felt so much quilt pooling in her stomach for wanting to leave the parking garage. without truly knowing if they were dead or not, a part of her believed it was the right call, the other believed it was stupid. because if they had left then her family probably would've died.
"i wanted to leave." cole told softly, looking to her mother who quirked a brow at the girl. confused by what she was talking about, "back at the parking garage, when we were hiding in the closet. i said we needed to have a plan, because i didn't think you guys were coming back." she mumbled, her back leaning against the cool feeling of the marble counter top. "it seemed like the right thing to do. we'd been waiting hours, and i was starting to think you guys were dead. i didn't want to die in that garage, i didnt want alicia or chris to die in that stupid garage." colette told, her voice cracking as tears pooled in her eyes. she felt silly for crying about something so silly, crying for wanting to stay alive.
"we were gonna leave and then you guys would've died." colette added, madison shook her head softly, pulling the teen into her embrace. running a gentle hand through the girls curls. "you made the right decision." madison told as she pulled away, using her thumbs to wipe away at the tears that streamed down her daughters face. the colette shook her head. "yes you did. if we hadn't come back, you guys would've been alive, because you made a good call. leaving would've been the best thing you guys could've done." madison told softly, smiling at her daughter who slowly nodded her head.
madison pulled away from her daughters arms, running a hand through her hair as she nodded. her mother moved to fill up a glass of water, "why don't you go get some sleep? you've been up all night." madison told softly, looking out the window, she gently tapped colette's bicep before leaving rushing out the back door. colette's brows furrowed in confusion as she moved to the living room, falling onto the couch, a sigh leaving her lips as she let her eyes shut. her legs were pushed off the couch, lifting her head she rolled her eyes with a small smile at the boy.
plopping her legs into his lap, "how you feeling?" he questioned softly, to which the girl pulled a face at the boy. "shouldn't i be asking you that question?" she questioned, empathizing the word you, watching him shrug. his hand resting atop her calf, "maybe, but im asking you." he told softly, to which she nodded, letting her head lay back down on the cushion on the couch.
"i'm fine, tired, but aren't we all." colette muttered, looking to the boy who nodded, leaning into the back of the sofa. "how're you feeling?" colette questioned softly, watching as he shrugged softly. "tired, but aren't we all?" he smiled softly at the girl, the teen dead panned him. "scared, tired, the list honestly doesn't end. i just want this shit to be over." he mumbled, leaning his head back, his adam's apple bobbing as he spoke. looking to colette who nodded her head at his words.
it was quiet for a moment, the two simply basking in one another's company. "were you there the whole time?" colette questioned, referring to the base camp they were at hours prior, he nodded slowly. turning his head to look at the girl, "they told us it was a safe camp, somewhere to ride this out. honestly we should've known that it was complete bullshit." he grumbled, eyes fighting to stay awake, colette stared sadly at the boy. she'd never seen him down, he was normally a very bright person.
he had his moments when he picked fights, but colette had known him for nearly a year, he'd been someone she'd grown to care for. she felt a pang in her heart as he stared sadly at her. exhaustion resting deep in his eyes as he stared at her, fingers tracing gentle circles on her calf. letting out a small sigh as his eyes fluttered lightly. "you couldn't of known, they're the military, you'd think they would've kept you guys safe." colette muttered, earning a small hum from leon. he shrugged lightly, blaming himself for not thinking twice about trusting random people, with his life and his sisters life's.
"yknow how people say always trust your gut or whatever? yeah do that. i kinda knew it was to good to be true." he muttered, the two fell into a comfortable silence, both barley awake. it was comforting, and a small piece of colette's chest felt relived that he was alive, that she had one of her best friends back.
the two, both on the verge of sleeping, jumped awake. the sound of a gun firing echoing loudly through the home. sitting up colette moved her legs from his lap, standing the two hurried to the kitchen. colette looked between her siblings, both equally confused.
her eyes watched as chris ran outside, and it slowly sunk in. they'd lost eliza.

AUTHORS NOTE — i'm not rushing things promise!! they were quit literally besties in school promise! yall r gonna get little flashbacks of their friendship later in season 2! trust! anyways this is a wrap of season 1!
