I was walking to class when Rhea caught up with me. "So, how was your weekend?" she asked.

"Same as always," I replied hesitantly.

"Oh, you mean horrible," she said, and I just nodded with a sigh. I kept thinking about how hard I needed to study so I could leave that nightmare of a house someday.

We soon reached our language class, and I took my usual seat. As the professor began teaching, I glanced at the desk where I had drawn a diamond with the message "You are a diamond" last week. To my surprise, there was a new message under it: "And you are my coal." I couldn't help but laugh. I scribbled back, "Fair enough, even coal turns into a diamond eventually... hehe."

Rhea noticed me doodling, but she was used to my habit of drawing on desks and notebooks during class. I didn't know who wrote the message, but it was fun to respond.

The following week, when I got to class, the first thing I did was check the desk. Sure enough, there was another message: "I know, that's why I said you're my coal... coffee?"

I had no plans of going for coffee with some mystery person. Besides, my aunt would freak out if she found out. So, I decided not to reply. But Rhea saw me smiling at the desk and, of course, pushed me aside to see what was going on. She then took it upon herself to write "yes" on the desk without even asking me. I tried to stop her, but convincing Rhea was impossible.

"Come on," she said. "What if he's nice?"

"We don't even know if it's a guy!" I shot back.

"So what?" she replied. "Actually, let me ask if it's a guy or a girl."

"No, Rhea! Stop!"

The class ended, and I decided to leave, but Rhea said she had to ask the professor some questions. Little did I know, she had more plans for that desk.

**Next week**

I arrived to class early, and when I sat down, I saw the desk covered with more messages. I was shocked to see that Rhea had written even more last week while I thought she was talking to the professor. I was furious. The messages said: "But since I said yes, I must know if you're a girl or a guy? And I like cold coffee by the way."

I was about to explode, but then I saw the reply: "Ok, cold coffee works for me too, and I'm a guy. How about next week after class, 4:30, near the college fountain... only if you don't mind?"

I couldn't believe how fast this guy took the initiative. But then again, I couldn't blame him-Rhea practically set it all up. As I sat there fuming, Rhea entered the class. I immediately started scolding her.

Her response? "Come on! See, now you have a date because of me."

"No, Rhea, I'm not going. I don't even know him!"

"Then get to know him!" she insisted.

"Rhea..."

"I'm not taking no for an answer," she said, and true to her word, after classes, she dragged me to the fountain. And there he was.
