"How was your first day of class?" Nina asked as I stepped into our dorm.

"Surprisingly, fun. We mostly just talked about different forms of photography and such. It was quite interesting," I stated, smiling to myself. I emptied the contents of my backpack out onto my desk: my laptop, a notebook, a pencil, my water bottle, and my spare camera.

"Who's the boy?" Nina suddenly asked. I stopped everything I was doing and stood there like a deer in the headlights for a second before resuming my project.

"What do you mean?" I questioned, a ghost of a blush forming on my cheeks.

"Who's the boy in your class? I can tell there is one just by the way you are acting," Nina smirked.

"What? There's no boy," I scoffed, attempting to lie but failing miserably.

"Sure there isn't, Aspen. Just tell me. I can keep a secret," she encouraged.

"His name is Ross Lynch," I sighed, giving in.

"Cute name. What does he look like?" Nina asked.

"Tall; blonde; dark eyes, though I'm not sure if they're hazel or brown, I couldn't tell. He seems to be more on the shyer side. He doesn't talk much, but when he does, it's like poetry. He always knows exactly what to say and how to say it so that it becomes more than just words. I don't know what the hell he is doing in a photography class because he could become a best selling author, in my opinion, but ya know, whatever floats his boat. He also seems to be very kind and caring, and now I'm rambling. Okay I'll shut up now," I blushed.

"Awwwwww, Apsen has a crush!" Nina squealed. "He sounds like a cutie. You better talk to him and get your hands on him before somebody else does, because I guarantee that he won't be on the market for long."

"I'm not even gonna try. I don't want a relationship this early on. It'll just be a distraction," I shrugged.

"Way to be an independent woman! Who needs guys, right?" Nina exclaimed. I just laughed heartily and shook my head.

"I just realized," I started off, "I never asked you what your major is."

Nina laughed and smiled kindly, "Its all good. I'm going into dance. I want to be a dance teacher."

"That's so cool! I should have known from all the posters!" I chuckled. "I wish I could dance. Let's just say that if the fate of the world depended upon whether I could pull off a few dance moves or not, we would all be dead within seconds."

"And of course, you're going into photography. But what do you want your main focus to be?" Nina asked.

"Nature. I've always been the outdoorsy type. My family and I would always go hiking in the mountains, and whenever we took a vacation, it was to a national park or some other scenic area. I grew up with it, and now I love it," I explained. I finished emptying my backpack and then took a seat in the folding chair that sat in front of my desk.

"If you don't mind my asking, of course, how did you hike in the mountains of you are afraid of heights?" Nina questioned.

"It wasn't a fear back then. When I was younger, I was fearless. Nothing could stop me from adventuring and enjoying myself outside. But when I was 15, I developed my fear of heights, and I've never been able to go up there again."

"That's such a shame," Nina muttered.

"It really is," I agreed. "But enough about me. Tell me more about you."

"I grew up here in Chicago. Dance has always been a passion of mine, and I knew I wanted to teach it by the time I turned ten. I've never dreamed of doing anything else, and here I am," she shrugged, smiling.

"Oh cmon, there's got to be more to you than that! What about your family, your hobbies, interests. Just tell me about you."

"Well I have an older sister and brother, who are twins, and a younger brother. My parents have been married for 25 years, still going strong. I've always really like music, too. I can play piano, but that's about it. Even my singing is horrid. Other than that, there's not much to me."

"What about you? What's your family like?" She asked. I froze and didn't speak for a few seconds before shaking my head.

"My family is fucked up. I'd rather not discuss them right now," I admitted.

"Oh, Aspen, I'm so sorry for bringing it up-"

"It's fine. Honestly. I get it all the time. Don't worry about it," I smiled weakly. "Do you maybe want to go out to dinner together or something? I'm absolutely starving."

"Sure, why not?" Nina shrugged. She grabbed her phone and wallet off of her desk before turning towards me.

"Oh, no, no. Leave the wallet. Dinner is on me," I stated.

"I'm not even going to try to argue because you look like you will wrestle me for this wallet," Nina laughed nervously.

"Damn right I would. You're a smart girl. Now let's go," I grinned cheekily and we headed out into the city.
