As they stepped outside, the cool night air hit Y/N's face, bringing a sense of relief after the chaos inside. They took a deep breath, the adrenaline still coursing through their veins, but now it felt manageable. Namjoon walked beside them, his strides purposeful but quiet.
"Are you okay?" he asked, glancing sideways at Y/N, concern evident in his eyes.
"I am now," Y/N replied, grateful for his presence. "That got a little out of hand, huh?"
Namjoon chuckled lightly, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Yeah, I didn't mean to escalate things like that. I just—" He paused, running a hand through his hair, frustration and regret mixing in his expression. "I didn't want you to feel disrespected, and it just happened so fast."
Y/N nodded, understanding the protectiveness behind his actions. "I appreciate you standing up for me, Namjoon. But you didn't have to fight him."
"I know," he said, his tone serious now. "I shouldn't have let my emotions get the best of me. I just... I was angry. I wanted to defend you, but I didn't think about the consequences. I'm really sorry."
Y/N looked at him, their heart swelling at the sincerity in his voice. "It's okay. I know you meant well. Gohyun can be infuriating, but fighting him wasn't the solution."
"Still, I should've handled it differently," Namjoon replied, shaking his head. "I never wanted to put you in that position. I just wanted you to enjoy the night."
"It was fun, despite everything," Y/N said with a small smile, trying to lighten the mood. "I mean, watching you throw that punch was surprisingly impressive."
Namjoon laughed, a genuine sound that made Y/N feel lighter. "I guess I should thank Gohyun for giving me some unexpected party entertainment."
As they walked, the city lights twinkled around them, creating a serene atmosphere that contrasted with the earlier chaos. The tension between them shifted, and Y/N felt a warmth blooming in their chest.
When they reached Y/N's building, they paused at the entrance. "Thanks for walking me home," Y/N said, glancing up at Namjoon. "You didn't have to do that."
"Of course I did," he replied, a soft smile gracing his lips. "I wanted to make sure you got home safely."
Y/N's heart fluttered at his words, and they took a moment to gather their thoughts. "Namjoon... I'm really glad you're in my life. I feel like I can be myself around you."
He stepped a little closer, the warmth radiating from him making Y/N's pulse quicken. "I'm glad too. You deserve that kind of space, especially after everything you've been through with Gohyun."
Y/N nodded, feeling the weight of his words. "I just wish he could've treated me better from the start. It's frustrating."
"I get it," Namjoon said, his tone gentle. "But remember, you're stronger than you think. You're not defined by your past, and you have so much ahead of you."
"I really needed to hear that," Y/N said, their voice softening. "Thank you for always being here for me, Namjoon."
He hesitated for a moment, as if contemplating something deeper. "I care about you, Y/N. A lot."
Y/N's breath caught in their throat, their heart racing at the unspoken weight of his words. "I care about you too, Namjoon. You mean a lot to me."
The moment hung between them, thick with possibilities. Y/N could sense that there was more he wanted to say, but before they could delve deeper, Namjoon cleared his throat, pulling back slightly.
"Maybe we should get some rest," he suggested, a hint of nervousness creeping into his voice. "After tonight, I think we both need it."
"Yeah, you're right," Y/N agreed, feeling a mix of disappointment and understanding. "Let's definitely catch up tomorrow."
"Absolutely," Namjoon replied, his smile returning. "I'll text you."
As Y/N stepped inside the building, they turned back to see Namjoon lingering for a moment, his eyes holding theirs with an intensity that made their heart flutter. Then, with a final wave, he turned and walked away, leaving Y/N standing at the door, a whirlwind of emotions swirling inside them.
Once inside, Y/N leaned against the wall, replaying the night in their mind—the fight, the laughter, and the moments with Namjoon that felt charged with something more. They couldn't help but wonder if there was a chance for something deeper between them, a connection that could blossom into something beautiful. With that thought, they drifted into a hopeful sleep, dreaming of what tomorrow might bring.
