Namjoon led Y/N to his bike, feeling a rush of determination to lighten their mood. "Hop on," he said, grinning as he gestured to the seat behind him. Y/N hesitated for a moment but then climbed on, wrapping their arms around his waist. As he began to pedal, the wind whipped through their hair, and Namjoon could feel Y/N's grip tightening, a mix of anxiety and trust. He steered them through the streets, weaving between the bustling crowds, and the vibrant cityscape began to wash away some of the heaviness that lingered in the air.
"Where should we go?" he asked over his shoulder, glancing back to see the hint of a smile on Y/N's face.
"Let's go to that park by the river," Y/N suggested. "We used to go there all the time."
Namjoon nodded, recalling the countless afternoons they'd spent laughing and dreaming about the future. The familiar path felt like a lifeline, guiding them back to a moment of joy amidst the chaos of the present. As they arrived at the park, Namjoon parked the bike and helped Y/N off, his heart lightening at the sight of the sun casting golden rays over the green landscape.
They walked toward the river, where the gentle sound of water flowing over rocks created a soothing backdrop. Y/N sat on a bench, their shoulders slowly relaxing as they took in the scene. Namjoon settled beside them, keeping a respectful distance, letting the tranquility wash over them both.
"Can I tell you something?" Y/N broke the silence, their voice barely above a whisper.
"Of course. You can tell me anything," Namjoon replied, shifting to face them more fully.
Y/N took a deep breath, looking out at the water. "I thought Gohyun was different. I really believed we had something special. It just... hurts, you know? I keep replaying everything in my head, wondering what I could have done differently."
Namjoon felt a surge of empathy. "It's normal to feel that way, but you shouldn't blame yourself. People make choices that reflect on them, not on you. You were open and honest, and that's what matters."
"I know," Y/N said, their eyes glistening. "But it's hard not to doubt myself. What if I'm not enough?"
"Y/N," Namjoon said, leaning closer, "you are more than enough. You've always been there for me, supporting me through my struggles. You deserve someone who recognizes your worth, someone who will lift you up, not tear you down."
As Y/N met his gaze, a flicker of hope began to replace the sorrow in their eyes. "You really think so?"
"Absolutely," Namjoon replied earnestly. "And I'm here for you. Always. You don't have to go through this alone."
Y/N nodded, the corners of their lips turning up slightly. "Thank you, Namjoon. I appreciate you."
They fell into a comfortable silence, the soothing sounds of nature surrounding them. After a moment, Namjoon decided to lighten the mood. "How about a little competition? Let's see who can skip the best rocks across the river!"
Y/N raised an eyebrow, the sadness lifting slightly. "You think you can beat me?"
Namjoon chuckled. "I'll take you on any day! Prepare to be amazed by my rock-skipping skills."
They made their way to the riverbank, gathering smooth stones and sharing laughter as they took turns skipping rocks. Each splash brought Y/N closer to their old self, their laughter echoing off the water and drawing smiles from nearby passersby. Namjoon felt a warmth in his chest every time Y/N grinned, the sound of their joy brightening the day.
After a few rounds, Y/N flopped down onto the grass, panting slightly from laughter. "Okay, okay, you win. But only because you had the bigger rocks!"
Namjoon lay back beside them, staring up at the sky. "A win's a win," he teased. "But I'll let you practice. You'll be a pro in no time."
Y/N laughed again, and Namjoon felt a sense of relief wash over him. He realized how much he missed seeing that light in their eyes. "You know," he said softly, "after everything that's happened, I want you to remember that this doesn't define you. It's just one chapter in your story."
Y/N turned to him, their expression thoughtful. "You always know what to say."
"It's easy when I'm talking about someone as amazing as you," Namjoon replied, smiling. "And I mean it—there's so much more to come for you. I can't wait to see you find the happiness you deserve."
With that, Y/N shifted closer, resting their head on Namjoon's shoulder. For a moment, they both just listened to the world around them, the soft rustle of leaves and the gentle lapping of water creating a comforting cocoon.
"Thank you for today, Namjoon," Y/N murmured, their voice muffled against his hoodie.
"Anytime, Y/N. I'm always here,"
