POV: Lando

"And that's the story of how I lost my wobbly tooth in the middle of a race during the final lap.
I was lucky I didn't choke on it... but hey, I finished P1 and got money from the tooth fairy that night.
I knew it was my mum, but the day couldn't get any better. Still regretting, that I didn't keep it as my lucky charm..."

Even though I promised to entertain her, she had the better stories up her sleeve and was talking Non-stop about her childhood at the track with all of the other kids from Manchester, which I didn't mind, because I could've just dreamed of having that many friends during my karting days.

She told me that her name was Keira Perkins, but I've never heard of her name before, which made me wonder how she became an F2 driver that quickly, because I knew almost every British racing driver with a big name.
Her karting skills had to be unmatched if she made that huge of a jump straight to F2.

Bold move from McLaren and Carlin motorsports, who signed her for the whole year already.

Hopefully it's not just for the tragic story behind her person and one of the marketing strategies of the team, because I can't stand it if my teammate doesn't challenge me on track.

If she doesn't give me a hard time winning, then how should I become better and drive at my limits?

I was sceptical about the decision of the team, but that had nothing to do with her personally.

"My lucky charm is the shiny Pokémon card I pulled before my first win in F4. Charmander, Number 4 in the Pokédex."

I snapped back into the topic with my nerdy childhood story, after getting lost in thought for a while.

"Damn, you're a geek? Now, that I think about it, it's not that hard to figure out. I could've sworn that your backpack has some kind of charm with a weird looking space robot."

It was still a culture shock for me, that some people these days still didn't know who R2-D2 was, even though the Star Wars franchise was huge all around the globe.

"The two of us have a lot to catch up on, before we can join forces together on track. If you don't get any of my pop culture and comic book references, we won't harmonise as a team."

I suggested to watch some Sci-Fi movies with me during the breaks in between the practice sessions, starting off with Star Wars, but she didn't seem like this is the way she imagined her trainee driver weeks to go.

My way of convincing her was impeccable though and she couldn't say no to an offer like that, when I added to smuggle some snacks and drinks every time, because I knew we weren't supposed to have some outside of our diet.

"Deal, but just if this stays an occasional thing and isn't turning into some kinda ritual before races."

Did she think I was trying to ask her out? She was acting as if I was testing the waters for a dating reason right now.

Ridiculous.
Not that she wasn't a decent girl with her own unique qualities, but she was rather cocky with her choice of words and too feisty for my taste.
