I didn't think I'd even talk to her tonight, but here I am, sitting with Kiara after... slow dancing? Or whatever you call what we just did.
After grabbing some snacks, we sneak upstairs to escape the chaos. The music downstairs is getting louder by the second.
"Jeez," Kiara says, rubbing her ear. "I didn't realize how loud it was down there."
"Yeah," I agree. "Didn't think it'd be this quiet up here though."
I drop onto the couch in the game room, and the distant thumping of the music still vibrates through the walls. Kiara stands nearby, looking a little unsure.
"Are you gonna sit?" I ask, tilting my head at her. She seems to relax a bit and finally sits next to me.
"That was fun, huh?" I say.
"Definitely, but I needed a break from all that..." I gesture to the floor below, mimicking the mess of bodies and flailing limbs. "...whatever that was."
Kiara laughs, and honestly, it's one of those laughs that makes me smile without even thinking about it. "I know what you mean," she says. "Things get out of control real fast."
"Yeah. I shouldn't have started dancing first, though. Now I'll never know what kind of dance moves you've got."
She flicks my shoulder with a smirk. "Excuse me, how low are your standards for me? Because I wasn't planning on it anymore... unless you want to see."
I raise an eyebrow, trying to look all casual. "Is that a challenge?"
"Maybe." She gives me that teasing grin. "You up for it?"
I lean back, head resting on my hand like I'm thinking it over. "What if... I am?"
Her eyes meet mine, and for a second, the party noise fades out, leaving just the two of us.
"Then show me what you've got," she says, but her voice is softer now.
I take a breath. This is it. The nerves hit me for a second, but I lean in slowly, giving her the chance to back out if she wants to. I brush my lips against hers, soft, just testing the waters.
She freezes for a split second, and my heart basically stops. I pull back, thinking maybe I screwed this up. But then I see her relax, and even though there's still a flicker of surprise on her face, she doesn't pull away. Instead, she leans into it, her lips moving against mine, just as hesitant as me but curious, too.
Her hand grazes my arm, and the warmth from her touch is enough to send a tingle through my whole body like every nerve is on fire. My brain goes blank with the scent of vanilla and jasmine shrouding me away.
When I finally pull away, her face is a little flushed, and she looks like she's still processing everything.
I clear my throat, trying to break the awkwardness. "Uh, sorry... I didn't mean to... I mean, I didn't want to cross a line or anything—"
Kiara's lips twitch into a small smile, though she's still looking a bit flustered. "It's fine. I just... wasn't expecting it."
She glances at me, smiling softly. "So... what happens now?"
I laugh, though it sounds more like a grimace, rubbing the back of my neck. "I guess we'll just have to see."
A/n: You have no idea how long I wanted to write this chapter
