What if different dimensions existed?

I was running, jumping roof to roof. Out of breath, and out of time. I couldn't shake them. Tears blurred my vision as I tried to forget what I had just witnessed. But there was no such mercy as forgetting. I jump off another rooftop, just barely  grabbing on to a ladder. I got to the top and sprinted to the edge, but they were too close. A masked man grabbed the hood of my hoodie, yanking me back. Before I had a chance to scream he had a knife to my throat. Murder in his eyes, he gave a wicked grin. "After all, what's one more to the pile?" he asked darkly, his voice loud enough for only me to hear. "WHAI-" I was cut short as he shoved me off the roof, mind spiraling as I realized I didn't have any of my tools. I couldn't think, there wasn't enough time. Tears fell as I did, memories of my life flashing at random. I couldn't help but think about my crew. "I love you guys..." Was all I could say before hitting the ground...

Carmen bolted upright, sweat beading on her brow. She looked at her surroundings, she was in an alleyway. But how was she alive? She looked down, she was sitting on an old discarded mattress. Carmen heaved a sigh of relief, that, was close. She got up and stood on shaky legs, a bit shaken by what had happened. The sun was beginning to set, and she figured she should get home before the crew commenced with their panic... As Carmen walked down the street where red base was, a few things stuck out to her. Hadn't the coffee shop been more blue than green? And she could have sworn that tree had been cut down. And if the road had been repaved she certainty hadn't noticed. And wait, hadn't that dog died months ago? Carmen shook her head, evidently, she needed sleep. She opened the door, a thousand apologies ready on her tongue only to find no one there. Carmen cringed, they were probably out looking for her. She shrugged, she needed sleep anyway and was just lucky to be alive. She sighed, the apologies would have to wait, she was a light sleeper and would probably wake up as soon as they got in the door. Carmen walked up to her room, the door silently closing behind her. Not bothering to turn on the light she crawled into bed, a smile finding it's way to her face as the blanket wrapped around her. Not twenty minutes later the crew walked through the front door, Zack and Ivy carrying takeout bags. Carmen was out of bed in seconds, bracing herself for the lecture she was bound to get from Ivy or Shadowsan. Or both. As she walked down the hall she couldn't help the feeling that something was off, she wanted to say it was just paranoia but something told her it wasn't. "C-C-Carm?" A Boston woman asked in a whisper of disbelief. Carmen looked up to see Ivy, her skin pale and body shaking, tears welled in her eyes as she looked at someone she thought she would only see in memories. "Hey Ives, you ok?" Carmen asked, now vary concerned for the woman she looked to as a sister. Ivy shook her head in disbelief, "It really is you, you're really here." her shaky voice said. "You look younger some how." She noted, lovingly brushing her thumb against Carmen's cheek. "Funny, I could've sworn you had a scar there." she whispered, Carmen raised an eyebrow. What was she talking about? "Y-You look hungry Carm, you want some'ing to eat?" Ivy asked, she nodded. The two walked down stairs to the couches, Zack and Shadowsan both nearly passing out upon seeing her... Carmen was at a loss, it had only been a few hours since they'd last seen her. So why on earth were they still in shock and disbelief that she's here. And why did they all look older ? "What happened?" She eventually mustered up the courage to ask, "What's the last thing you remember?" Shadowsan replied. Carmen lifted an eyebrow, "When's the last time you remember being here and how'd you get back?" Ivy clarified. "I was here a few hours ago, I told you guys that I was gonna go clear my head. I ended up stumbling into something..." Carmen swallowed the lump in her throat, "Something I should have stayed away from. I got chased roof to roof for a while, then the group's leader caught up with me and pushed me off a roof. I thought I was done for, only to wake up on a discarded mattress a few hours later. From there I found my way back home and was waiting for you guys." she said. The concerned looks and nervous glances were not reassuring. "What?" She asked, growing more concerned by the second. "So, you theory was right?" Zack whispered to Ivy, she nodded. There were choked sobs as they all realized what was going on, all eyes on Carmen. "Would someone please just tell me what's going on!?"She nearly shouted, "You died Carm." her eyes widened into saucers at Zack's statement. "W-What!?" she wanted to scream, "Over a year ago, you just...Couldn't take it. You had gone through so much. Y-You were in a lot of pain, you thought that you were only ever a burden. We didn't see it in time, didn't get there in time." he finished. "At least, that's what happened to our Carm." Ivy said, Carmen looked at her confused. "You are not really home Carmen, there is much to explain." Shadowsan said, she nodded. "A little over a year ago, something happened. Something bad. You had been overwhelmed and went to clear your head, and you ended up witnessing the murder of someone close to you. You got chased from rooftop to rooftop, you got pushed off the roof and hit your head hard. When you were recovering in the hospital, something about you changed. You almost never talked, barely slept or ate, and you'd almost never smile. Something you did do, is you'd spend hours working on some sort of device. You never said what it was, or why it was so important. Just that you hoped it would work one day. This, was the device." Ivy finished, and Zack showed it to her. Carmen studied it for a moment, "It's looks like some sort of...time machine?" she concluded, Ivy nodded. "Well, that what it was supposed to be." Zack said, at her confused look Ivy elaborated. "You're not from here, you're from-" "A different dimension." Carmen finished, they nodded. "How'd you know?" Zack asked, "Bellum. She used to love talking to me about it." she said. "We loved our Carm, and miss her everyday. So please, if you ever think of the unthinkable, don't do it. You have no idea how much you mean to your team." Ivy said, tears in her eyes. Shadowsan gently picked up and held Carmen's hands, "You are never a burden. You are loved, and your past dose not define you." he said. "It's not your fault Carm. What happen today, wasn't your fault." Zack said, his voice rasp. Tears now stood in Carmen's eyes "No, no you don't get it. What happened, I could have stopped it. She would've been ok if I had just-just done something, anything!" "Carmen, no. No she wouldn't have. I know it's not what you want to hear right now, but you couldn't have saved her. Even if you'd acted faster." Ivy said, Carmen looked at her. The torn apart crew hugged the broken girl. The girl that looked, spoke, and was so much like the young woman they never got a chance to say goodbye to. "Let's get you home Carm." Zack whispered, a part of him wishing they could keep her here. Wishing they could do things right this time. Wishing he could hug her and never let go. But alas, no matter how hard they wished she was their Carmen, she wasn't. her crew needed her, and her them. So they got the machine running again, and they set the coordinates. "I guess this is goodbye." Ivy said horsely, "WAIT!" came Player's voice. The boy sprinted over to Carmen, hugging her with every bit of strength he had. "Bye red." He said, voice barely a whisper. "Goodbye Player." She said, guilt coursing through her... In the end the hurting team had to say goodbye all over again, and maybe, it hurt even worse this time. But at least this time, they got to say goodbye. Carmen woke up where she'd left off, as if nothing ever happened. luckily not hurt, she got up and headed home. "There you are Carm, where have ya been?" Ivy asked, looking up from what she was doing on her phone. "You've been gone for hours. we were...starting to get worried." Zack said, Carmen smiled as she reassured her crew that she was ok. She smiled because she knew. Finally, she knew. Knew just how much her crew loved her. And knew that she would never leave, not by her own hand. From that moment on there was something different about Carmen. But this time, that difference was for the better.

"You are never a burden. You are loved, and your past does not define you." If anyone who reads this is thinking of the unthinkable, please rethink. You may never get a chance to know what God can do for and through you if you end it now. I not saying your life isn't hard, I'm saying it can get better. I know how hard it can get, I've been there. I won't pretend I know what you're going through, but I know what I've gone through. It will get better. I promise. I love you guys, no-matter how different, broken, or hurt. Will be praying for anyone who asks, God bless. And for those who might know someone thinking about suicide, please, make sure they know they're loved. It gets hard out there ya'll, never be afraid to share some love. Again, if you want me to pray for you, I'll never turn you away. And neither will He.
