Carmen gasped for breath, water from the ocean and sky once again trying to fill her lungs. she couldn't get a firm grip- her ears were plugged. nothing would slow down!- She couldn't breathe!- Panic overwhelmed her. she just couldn't. She couldn't breathe. Suddenly the ball and chain on the plank of wood she was so desperately trying to hold on to fell, attempting to pull her down to the depths that may very well become her watery grave. Carmen yanked at the chain attached to her ankle, desperate hope that she'd live fleeting. Carmen gulped in a breath, knowing she'd be going under. Her only hope was that she would be able to pick the lock on the ball-and-chain, and the lock to her cuffs. she looked around in the water, eyes burning. She managed to spot a small nail. And it took almost all her strength, but she swam and grabbed it. Her ankle was dragging her further and further down. She didn't have much time. A huge wave hit, sending ripples down to the depths of the sea. Carmen braced herself, it wasn't enough. She was sent flying, nearly blacking out on impact. She lay in the weightless waters mostly numb, her last shred of hope eluding her as she gave in to both injury and exhaustion. She let her eyes close, never to be opened again...

Or so she thought...

Carmen felt something slam into her back, hard. And the impact not only woke her up in an instant, but was just enough to send the water that oh-so wanted to drown her forth from her lungs. She coughed for a few moments before taking a breath of air, and when she finally did she realized how much her lungs ached. Carmen looked at her surroundings, trying to find the culprit for slamming into her now possibly bruised back. Still laying down she looked to her right, to see a coconut? She looked up and sure enough, there was a palm tree. Carmen shook her head, 'At least I won't drown now.' she thought to herself. Carmen turned over on her back, propping herself up on her elbows and looking over herself. Her jeans were ripped near her thigh, the front on her shirt was still damp, and her right ankle was...free? Still blistered and sore and bleeding slightly, but freed. Carmen moved to get up, wincing slightly at the sudden pain in her ankle. "What...happened?" She muttered, facing the sea. The memories came back to her in flashs, walking along the docks, getting captured by real life pirates, (who were no doubt working with V.I.LE.) the endless rowing, the fear, the pain, the helicopter flying above head and her attempt to get it's attention, her hands being cuffed behind her back as the ball-and-chain was attached to her ankle, walking the plank in a storm, nearly drowning...and in the trows of the ocean successfully picking the locks. Carmen stood up, nearly screaming as a searing pain spread across her back. With a grunt she turned back to the sea, shielding her eyes from the harsh rays the sun sent forth and trying to spot a ship. Bit there wasn't one to be found, she was on her own. Carmen took a breath "I grew up on an island," she spoke into the air, "I can and will survive on one." she said as she turned back to the island.Face hardening in determination slightly, a small smile spread across her face. Because after all, she was Carmen Sandiego. And she really didn't know when to quit.

"Faze one successful. She has reached the island, alive." Doctor Bellum said, an evil smile plastered to her face. "Excellent. Shall we begin faze two?" Maelstrom replied, as evil and sick as ever.
