7 - Gotta Be Mine

4:37 p.m.

When I got home I turned off my car and walked inside my house. "Ma I'm home!" I yelled as I closed the door. "Ay mi hija stop yelling." My mom said as she speed walked out her room and out of the house. Since we were going out to look for jobs together, we decided that I'd drive so I could just drop her off home when we were done and I'd go back to the Kalogeras house. I quickly got a water from the fridge and walked back out the house.

"To who house you go?" My mom asked when we got in my car. "Whose house do you go to" I said trying to help her fix her sentence. "Whose house do you go to?" She asked again. "A friend from school. Her name is Demitra." I answered with my eyes fixed on the road. "Friend or frienddd?" She dragged out nudging me making faces at me. "We're just friends for now ma." I smile shaking my head. "You like her?" She asked looking at me. I paused for a second. "Yeah I do." I responded looking at her then looking back at the road.

"Bring her home." She said looking out the window. "What?" I asked looking at her again. "I want to meet tu novia" she said simply. "She's not my girlfriend." "Pero you like her?" "Yeah" "Okay. Be girlfriend." I just shook my head and paid attention to the road. "I'll bring her around sometime next week." She just smiled at me and looked out the window.

We got to the first job and if I'm being completely honest, it didn't look like a place I'd wanna work at. But my mom seemed to love it. The position was to be a manager at a diner. That was her last job so she had no problem applying for it again. Actually most of the jobs we were looking for were for her. I was fine without working and just focusing on school but I have to work according to my mother.

We went to about 3 places and my mom applied to all of them. We got hungry and decided to go to a place called Tim Hortons. They had a big "We're hiring" sign out front. "Mira you can work here." She pointed at the sign as we walked in. We walked to the counter and ordered our food. After we were done ordering I asked for an application. The lady behind the register gave me a clipboard and we stood to the side to wait for our food.

While we were waiting I filled out the application giving my contact information and work history, you know, the works. The lady called us up to get our food and I gave her the clipboard. "Alright, you should be expecting a call tomorrow to set up an interview." The lady said with a polite smile. "Okay thank you" I smiled back. "Have a good day." She finished turning to her next customer.

We ate our food then got back in the car when we were finished. It was now 6:19 and I just pulled into the driveway of our house. "I'm going back to Demitra's house." I said to my mom as she got out the car. "Okay be safe." She said and closed the door. I waited till she got in the house and pulled out my driveway heading to Mia's house.

When I pulled into her driveway I turned off my car and pulled out my phone texting Mia.

I got out my car and walked up to the door knocking on it. The door opened showing Mia smiling brightly at me. "You don't have to be very very VERY sad." I said with a light smile looking down at her. "I'm very very VERY glad." She with a big smile letting me in. "Y/NNNN!!" Sunday and Noah said at the same time. "Wassup yall." I said walking over to give Sunday a hug and dap up Noah. "Oh so you and Mia can match but we can't!?" Noah exclaimed. "I told you it's just for a day pooks." I said giving Noah a light smile. He just shook his head and had an offended look on his face. "We aren't even matching anymore." Mia laughed at him. He just rolled his eyes playfully.
