'Please play the above song in repeat while reading this chapter.'

With a thundering heart, Adhithyan walked the corridors of Kadambur palace. His mind wandered in the corners of his past. The beautiful past, where all he ever wanted was Nandhini in his arms. The dangles of her anklet still echoing in his dream. His sleepless nights, the day before a war all he could think of was, killing his own incompetence to lay in her laps for centuries.

His attributes towards her weren't mere love. But devotion. A form where he wanted to worship her as his own every day. As the heavy smell of Parijat hit his senses, his older self went on knocking on the doors of his teen self.

The young Adithya Karikalan, who was feared for his spirit in the whole chola empire and lands beyond, only feared to miss a day with his lover Nandhini. She was his guide towards solace. A path he was willing to kill for or get killed. He would have done anything to get To his lover. Even now he will.

But Fate wasn't his friend. The despair he felt when he went far from Nandhini is beyond any words. He would have died the day if not for the little small time he spent in her arms. There wasn't a place in the empire that he hadn't searched for her. Every inch of the city was drained to find his eternal love. Still he couldn't. There he took a oath to never set foot in Thanjavur.

Thanjavur haunted his incomplete self without Nandhini. So he was determined to return only with her. As the parijat scent brought his unforgettable memories, the scene in front took his soul apart.

Nandhini.

Nandhini there.

She is sitting. His serene. His Nandhini. Still same. He approached her. She called her to the Kadambur palace for a talk. Years have been portrayed like a wall to his will. She is the woman to whom he belonged.

With the past still in his mind, he walked a step to see her taking the fallen sword. A sarcastic smile kept its way in his face. He knows.

Hell he knows.

She wanted to finish this. For once and for all. And he knew what the consequences were. He wouldn't mind getting called a betrayer. But he would have shaved the men's head from their body the moment anyone doubts his love for Nandhini.

She is his own heart.

" You waited long enough, don't you?" He asked as his figure stood tall before her self. Her appearance quivering over there. His heart welled up with unspoken emotions.

He made her stand up, her whole eyes still looking through his eyes. He could see it through. Beyond the veil of hate, his Nandhini is still there.

Nandhini who lost her self waiting for an Adithyan who went to war. Who mourned everyday and prayed for his healthy return. She can fake anything but not the love she holds for him and not from him.

" Here take this, let's finish it for all we care" he uttered as he gave the sword to her. Pointing it straight to his heart.

With a shaking hand as tears fall from her diamond eyes, Nandhini throws the sword away. It pierces his heart to see her cry.

" You wanted this, right!? Then why are you reluctant?" He shouted at her. There wasn't any anger towards her, but himself. They were supposed to be happy. Not tangled in the lies and sins of others. It pains him more and more, that at the end of the day, his love is the one being questioned. He can't live with this pain anymore.

She quivers even more. More than anyone her love for him hurts more. The love she kept away and buried in the deepest of her secrets was eating her alive. She couldn't come up with her hate, when she sees her Adithyan. Her Adithyan.

"No...no.." she matters as more tears fall down. They weren't supposed to be in this mess. She hates herself that she couldn't hug his Karikalan even when he is just eight feet away.

'Ettradi kotrumutre pirivai,
Sabamai thanthaniyo'

' A mere eight feet feels like a curse for lifelong seperation'

" Don't fear now!" Adithyan shouted as he took his hand knife, went towards the lamps and blew them off with his 'angavastram.'

He came towards her. Both of them standing in the dark just inches apart. Made her hold the knife. Even though she protested, he made her hold it with his own hands wrapping over hers.

He looked at her eyes in eyes. Their tragedy of pure love fell apart in the sins of the empire.

என் மேல் காதல் கொண்ட கண்களில், வெறுப்பை காணும் நேரம் எல்லாம், வாழ்வே வலிகிதடி.

It is painful to see hatred in the eyes which loved me once.

நெஞ்சம் பரிதவிக்க, நெருப்பில் தேகம் எரிய, நீ இல்லாத வாழ்வும் கசக்குதடி.

As my heart yells, my body burns in fire, life without you is so bitter.

வாடிய நேரம் எல்லாம், தியில் எண்ணெய்யாக , உண் நினைப்பு தீண்டி, தேகத்தை கிலிகிதடி.

Your thoughts feel like oil pouring in fire as they pierce my skin at the lowest of my times.

ஆயிரம் பிறவி ஆகினாலும், உன் கைகளால் மரணம் வேண்டுமடி.

Though born a thousand times, I must die in your hands.

Adithyan swirled her and himself as he took her in his arms, and pierced the knife in his heart. To show his never ending love that he held for her, he pushed the knife more in his chest. Nandhini shouted in agony. Her hate long faded, it's just her old self mourning for her lover.

The sight was brutal. Her Karikalan dying in her own hands was the curse she got. The one she can't even erase in the Kaveri river.

She achieved. She killed Adithyan. But it isn't providing her the peace she wanted. She loved him. He loved her. But Fate did them dirty. Now that he is falling, she wants to turn the events back.

Adithyan fell down, and Nandhini took him in his lap. With a last smile he said,

" Enn Annamae"

'my swan'

With that, her agonies rise in the form of her voice. Reaching up the skies and beyond the ocean, she cries for her love. Her love which went unrequited. Her mourning goes high as Karuthirman takes her away from there forcefully.

She can't forgive herself for eternity.....
