Kendall

I couldn't stop thinking about my encounter with - who I later learned was - Asher. I didn't want to think about it. Most people instantly bonded with my energetic glow but there were still the few that hated me. More than anyone, Candace. That day, I'd stopped by the computer lab to pick something up when I ran into the last person I wanted to see. "Okay, you dumb brat, I've had it with you," I stared at her in genuine confusion. "What did I do?" She was the one that kept bothering me with her stupid "pranks". Candace scowled at me. "First you just show up at this school, and now you're trying to steal my boyfriend?" Once again, I had no idea what she was saying. "You have a boyfriend?" "Stop playing dumb! I know what you did! You dared to speak to my boyfriend! You even stayed after school with him! God knows what you were doing..." Everyone in the hallway was staring at us now. "I'm sorry, but I have no idea who your boyfriend is," I responded, slightly annoyed. "You really don't know? You're dumber than I thought! Does 'Asher Rivera' ring a bell?" Asher? My eyes suddenly widened. "Asher Rivera?" I repeated. "Yes! What did you do with him?" I couldn't even hear what Candace was saying anymore. Asher was Candace's boyfriend? Suddenly, it all made sense. Why Asher was so popular for bullying people, and why Candace hated everyone who didn't worship her. They were together because they were just the same. I felt disgusted and embarrassed that I blushed even once for Asher. He probably hit on every girl in the entire school. Whatever. I thought. They can have each other. "I'm sorry," I told Candace, remembering that she was still waiting for an answer. "You better be," she narrowed her eyes on me. "I know you're new and Asher has a history of being a playboy so I'll let it slide, just this once," she paused to examine her nails. "But if you come near my boyfriend one more time -" she cut herself off again. "It's not going to be good!" Are you done? I wanted to ask but I also didn't want to upset her further. "Okay, he's all yours," I reassured, rolling my eyes a little. "Smart girl," Candace muttered. "Let's go girls," Her friends instantly complied and followed her. I couldn't believe I thought Asher wasn't that bad. I couldn't believe I thought about Asher at all! That would all change now.

"Hey," An unfamiliar voice asked. I looked up. "Hi," I responded softly. It was lunch, and I was the only girl sitting alone. "You're Kendall, right?" "Um, yeah, did you need something?" The girl touched her curly blonde hair and twirled it around her finger. "No, I just wanted to say hi," she grinned. I grinned back. "Are you new here?" she asked. I nodded, slightly embarrassed. Noticing my uncomfortableness, the girl laughed. "I can't even remember what it was like when I was new," She sat down next to me. The lunch table was empty except for us. "Did you have any friends?" I wished I could swallow my words back down my throat. As if she could sense my embarrassment, she smiled. "Well, not at first but I did make them eventually," I nodded. I was afraid to open my mouth because if I did, I might have said something dumb again. "So... what class do you have next?" the girl asked. I sighed trying to remember my schedule. I didn't want to get the paper copy of it out of my backpack because then she would have to see all of the other useless things I had stuffed in there. "I don't remember..." I muttered quickly. "Didn't the school give you a copy?" "Yeah," I grabbed my backpack off the floor. So we were doing this after all. Unzipping it slowly, I stuck my arm in and unsuccessfully reached around for a piece of paper. That's when I noticed the girl staring at me. Giggling nervously, I check every pocket. "How many things do you have in your backpack?" she gawked in confusion. "A lot of things," I confessed. "Why don't you just put the stuff in your locker?"

I sighed. "I can't get my locker open," I admitted, hanging my head. "Just tell someone, they'll help you," "I already filled out a pass but it doesn't seem like it's gonna get fixed anytime soon." There was silence for a second. "I can try to help you," she suggested. "Really? You would do that?" She nodded, a small grin spreading across her face. I smiled. "Thank-" the lunch bell rang and the girl got up. "I'm Chloe by the way," she told me. I nodded. "Nice to meet you, Chloe," I emphasized her name, causing her to laugh. And that was how lunchtime actually ended up being fun.
