Asher

"So...You going to the party tonight, man?" My best friend Aaron asked. He was sitting in my chair with his legs up on the desk. "I don't know...Is Ken- Anyone I know going?" Aaron cleared his throat. "Yeah, I'm sitting right here telling you about a party I'm not going to," I glanced at his blunt expression. "Sorry, forgot," Aaron shook his head. Then he went into a rant about everything that was gonna be at the new years party. But I lost track. I already knew what would be at a party like this. Would Kendall go to a party like this? Would she think it was uncool? Immature? Crazy? Or would she think it was fun and enjoyable? No, she was someone who liked books and studying. She would think it was immature. Would that mean she thought I was immature? Maybe I should have just stayed home... "Ash!" Aarons voice brought me back. "Kendall?" I wished I hadn't said it. I had just given Aaron a book of all of the thoughts I had been thinking about the past few days. "I called you like four times, man- Wait. Was that what you were thinking about? Kendall?" He smirked. I rolled my eyes and looked away. "It's not like that," I muttered. "Well...Chloe told me that Kendall's going to the party too," My eyes snapped back to Aaron. "She is?" Aaron nodded, still smirking. "Dude, stop," "You like her," I rolled my eyes. "Of course I like her...As a friend," Aaron tutted. "Liar," he sang. I glared at him. "Drop it," "Yeah, no," I sighed and got up, making my way to my closet. "Are you gonna wear a tux?" I spun back around, grabbed a pillow, and aimed a throw at Aaron. He shrieked like a little girl and ducked.

"Damn," Aaron muttered. The party was raging. Loud music played and people danced wildly. Occasional colorful lights flashed in the background. Some people were talking. Some were flirting. Some were even making out. I noticed a guy I recognized from school kissing a girl who was sitting on the countertop. There was a mistletoe above them. Aaron caught my line of sight. "They couldn't hold it in until midnight, could they?" He sneered. I knew he was looking at me. "Aaron, dude, you've got to stop," I told him. I glimpsed at him. He was still smirking. "She's not even here," I acknowledged. "I don't think she's gonna show up," Aaron smirked again. "Say what you want Ash, it's obvious you like her...and I mean like-like her," "Shh!" My eyes bolted around the room to make sure Candace or any of her friends weren't there. "Don't worry, Candace isn't here," Wondering how he had read my mind, I sighed in relief.

"Aaron!" someone shrieked and jumped on Aaron. I thought he was being ambushed until I realized it was Chloe. "Woah, hey Clo," Chloe started to drag him somewhere. He waved at me before he was swept out. I chuckled lightly and turned back around. Then I saw it. The most wonderful thing I had ever seen. She was right in front of me. Her hair was pulled into a loose bun with small strands of hair falling into her face. She was wearing a fitted black dress that came a little above her knees. Her jewelry was silver. But the most eye-catching piece of jewelry was the necklace I gave her. It was draped around her neck and glistened when light hit it. I looked back into her glowing blue eyes. "Earth to Asher," she giggled and waved a hand in front of my face. "Sorry," I muttered as I felt heat rush to my cheeks. "Do you think the dress is nice?" Nice? Nice? It was perfect. "You're perfect," I cringed. "What?" She raised an eyebrow. "No - No sorry - I meant the dress is perfect! Dress - You - pretty similar words, huh?" I staggered nervously. Then I cringed again. What was wrong with me? She laughed. "Okay, sure," She smiled again and I swear I almost melted. Get a grip, Asher...You won't be able to talk to any girls if you're like this. "So...Have you ever been to a New Years party before?" Way to go, Asher. Of course she had been to a New Years party before! I could have won the award for asking the stupidest questions. "Oh, yeah," She said. "Only once though...I was around five years old," "Five years old? So it's been over ten years?" She nodded. "I don't come out a lot, you know," I took her in again. I had never seen anyone so pretty.
