It wasn't her Jasper standing in front of them. It was a different version of him. A scarier one. He was looking at the man at her left like she had never seen him look at anyone else. Not even at her.
His eyes, his entire body brought a death promise. It was watching like the god of War itself standing in front of her. She had seen Death before, she knew what she looked like, but now Jasper seemed something that even Death would be afraid of.
Sabrina had never been scared of Jasper; not in that way.
She had always known inside her that he was dangerous, but nothing had prepared her for what she was seeing now.
And now she was scared too.
It seemed like that realization alone made him look at her.
As soon as his black eyes met hers, a veil of worries and affection fell over her.
Jasper was there.
She was going to be fine.
He saved her.
And as a filter had been taken away from her eyes, she saw her Jasper again. The boy with soft blond curly hair. The boy who only she saw smiling when he was with her. The boy whose chest she wanted to bury her face in and let the world around them disappear.
«Come here. » he spoke softly. His voice sounded like a caress to her ears. His eyes never leaving hers.
To go to him, she would need to walk between the two guys left standing, but Jasper was right at the other side, holding his hand out for her to take. She could do that; she felt stronger than she had ever been. She was confident that even if one of them would be foolish enough to try to get a hold of her, Jasper would rip their throat apart, and a part of her knew he would do it literally.
Sabrina took the first step toward him, and looking into his eyes; those black eyes that few weeks ago had frightened her, she felt like the world had tuned off. She still held the bloody stone in her hand, but she barely registered walking between the two guys, as she barely registered letting the stone falling when she was in front of Jasper.
He wasn't looking at those behind her. He wasn't looking at Bella, or Edward.
He was looking only at her.
Her heart was racing but not out of fear anymore. It was racing for something new. Something foreign to her, but that in that moment felt just right.
Sabrina grabbed his hand; his coldness was a blessing for her too hot skin. «You saw the message. »
It was the most stupid thing she could say, but it seemed that Jasper understood her just fine, because he nodded, and a different kind of pain showed on his beautiful face. «I was afraid I couldn't be here in time. »
She smiled. She didn't force her body this time, she didn't act like she was used to. She gave him one of her truest smiles. «I knew you would. »
He watched her smile for few seconds, before mirroring it for her. He turned serious after few moments, still looking at her kind eyes. «I need you to not look at me now. Can you do that? »
He was going to do something, probably the same thing he did before, and he didn't want to scare her. Sabrina didn't know how in a moment like that she could be so aware of his intentions, and maybe she wasn't. Maybe it was her and Jasper's way to communicate with their eyes.
«Can I still hold you? » her voice was trembling now; afraid she would need to let him go.
If she couldn't look at his eyes, his hand would have been the only thing that kept her from breaking down. She hadn't realized that her other hand had come to rest on his forearm, making her almost hugged at his whole arm.
