Author POV:
"Wakey, wakey, princess," the head maid, a kind woman in her 50s, called out sweetly, gently waking up the princess of the kingdom.
"Five more minutes, Achi..." the princess whined in her sleepy, baby voice, snuggling deeper into her blankets.
The head maid, who had practically raised the princess, chuckled softly.
"But, your grace, you're already late for college. Didn't you say your first class is with that strict professor?"
"Oh no! Shoot!" the princess suddenly sat up, her eyes wide, and dashed off to the bathroom, her earlier sleepiness forgotten.
The elder woman giggled as she began tidying up the room, watching with affection as the young princess hurried about.
When the princess returned, she made her bed herself. She had always insisted on doing small things like this, even though the head maid had offered to help.
"Achi, it's not your job to do these things," the princess had once said politely.
"Your job is to take care of me, and from now on, please let me handle these small tasks myself. That's an order from your princess."
"As you wish, your grace," the head maid had bowed, a smile tugging at her lips. She was proud of the princess' independence.
This morning was no different. As the princess finished up, the head maid said gently, "Princess, your brother is waiting for you at the main palace to have breakfast together."
"Alright! Let me just grab my bag, Achi."
She hurried out of her room, which was actually a beautiful mini palace that her father had gifted her.
It was a lovely duplex house located in the eastern wing of the palace grounds. Her brother, the crown prince, stayed just a short distance away, in the right wing.
As she stepped outside, she was greeted by Gaurav, the head of the royal guards.
"Gaurav bhaiyya? What a surprise!" she said, smiling warmly.
He bowed respectfully. "Your grace."
"Stop with all the formalities, bhaiyya! What brings you here?" The princess had always treated Gaurav and Ashank like her own brothers.
They were close to her real brother's age and had always been kind and protective of her.
"Your bodyguard is on leave today, princess. I'll be filling in for him."
"Oh, alright then!" she chirped, walking towards the main palace with Gaurav by her side.
When they entered the grand hall, everyone bowed to her as usual. The princess, always humble, bowed back.
She spotted her brother at the dining table and greeted him with a playful bow.
"Your royal highness," she said, laughing.
Agastya looked up and smiled instantly. "Stop it, munchkin. Your greeting is giving me chills."
She giggled and sat down next to him, digging into her favorite food. "So, why are we eating here today? Don't we usually eat in your chamber or mine?"
"I ran out of ingredients to make breakfast, munchkin," Agastya said with a shrug.
The princess hummed. Agastya turned to Gaurav, his tone colder now. "Gaurav, please take care of that."
"Yes, your royal highness," Gaurav replied immediately.
The princess frowned, rolling her eyes at her brother. "Bhai, are we living in the 18th century? Stop making him call you that all the time. He's older than you! Just let him call you by your name."
