Later that evening, the weight of the day's events settled heavily on my chest. Berta had invited me to her apartment, the familiar comfort of her space wrapping around me like a warm blanket. The sunlight filtered through the windows, casting soft shadows on the walls, but all I could feel was the turmoil of my thoughts.

I flopped down onto the couch, the cushions enveloping me, yet I felt restless. I could no longer hold back the conflicting emotions swirling inside me. Berta settled beside me, her expression serious but inviting, as if she knew I needed to talk.

"Berta," I began hesitantly, my heart racing. "Can I talk to you about something?"

"Of course! You know I'm always here for you," she said, leaning in closer, her eyes filled with concern and curiosity.

I took a deep breath, the words feeling heavy on my tongue. "It's about Alejandro."

Her eyes widened, a hint of a grin creeping onto her face. "Ooh, tell me everything!"

I shot her a glare but couldn't suppress the flicker of a smile. "I'm so annoyed with him, Berta. He drives me crazy, but... I can't deny there's something there. Something I didn't want to feel."

She nodded, her expression softening as she listened. "That's perfectly normal, Isa. Attraction can be confusing, especially when you've got this whole sibling protective squad ready to pounce."

"Right? Iñaki's practically on high alert, and I'm caught between wanting to scream at him and wanting to figure out what's happening with Alejandro," I confessed, running a hand through my hair in frustration. "It feels like a mess."

Berta wrapped an arm around me, offering comfort. "You're not alone in this. Just be honest with yourself about how you feel. It's okay to be drawn to him even if it complicates things."

"But it does complicate things!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands up. "What if I give in to this attraction, and then it turns out he's just like every other football player? What if it ends badly?"

"Or it could be amazing," she countered, her voice steady and reassuring. "You won't know unless you take the chance. Just remember, you have the final say in your feelings. It's your heart, Isa."

I leaned back against the couch, pondering her words. The conflict inside me remained, but Berta's support felt like a lifeline, pulling me toward the possibility of exploring this new dynamic with Alejandro. "Every time I let someone in, it feels like I'm handing them a piece of my heart, but what if they don't know how to handle the pain?"

Berta's eyes softened, understanding my vulnerability. "That's a valid fear, but you can't let it hold you back from experiencing life and love. It's about taking risks, and yes, sometimes it hurts, but it can also bring incredible joy."

As we sat in the cozy silence, I realized that I had a decision to make. The tension between Alejandro and me wasn't just a fleeting annoyance—it was a spark that could lead to something deeper if I dared to embrace it. The thought was terrifying yet exhilarating.

"I just wish I could talk to Iñaki without him treating me like I'm still ten years old," I murmured, feeling the familiar frustration bubbling up again. "It's exhausting."

Berta tilted her head, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "What about Nico? Have you tried talking to him?"

I paused, considering her suggestion. "Nico? I mean, I haven't really thought about it, but maybe he'd understand a bit better. He's not as intense as Iñaki."

"Exactly! He's a good balance. Maybe he can help you navigate this whole Alejandro situation," Berta said, her eyes sparkling with encouragement. "And if he tries to play the protective brother too, you can remind him that you're an adult!"

I laughed, the tension in my chest easing a little. "Okay, but no guarantees on anything. I'm still figuring this out."

As we continued to chat about our plans and what might happen next, I couldn't shake the feeling that talking to Nico could provide a new perspective. Berta was right—having someone to confide in who understood both sides could be the key to untangling my emotions.

"I will. I promise," I said finally, feeling a newfound sense of determination. "I just need to gather my courage and face it head-on."

"Exactly! And who knows? You might end up surprising yourself," she replied, her smile infectious. "Now, let's plan for the next time you run into Alejandro. I'm all for a little strategic plotting here."

As we continued our conversation, the weight of my emotions felt lighter. I realized that even amidst the confusion and uncertainty, I had the support of my best friend, and that made all the difference.

Maybe I wouldn't have all the answers right away, but I was ready to take that leap into the unknown. And who knew? The journey could lead me to places I never imagined—both with Alejandro and within myself.
