Chapter one...
"The boy in the vents"
For as long as 10 year old Adiella Rose had remembered the only consistent thing that kept her feeling safe and normal was the boy in the vents. 17 year old John Murphy. When Adiella was 8, terror struck and her life changed forever. With a horrible incident she landed herself in the skybox. The place where the kids who have committed crimes get sent until they turn 18. Adiella grew up on a space station called the Ark. Her life was simple before the accident. When she first arrived at the skybox she would have horrible nightmares of the accident... the things she had done. When she had heard a voice....
2 years earlier...
Adiella tossed and turned in the uncomfortable prison bed, having not gotten good sleep since everything had happened. She missed her mother... She missed her father... Why did they have to leave her with such a bad man. Why was she driven to the point where she did what she did. She screamed into her pillow waking up distraught, covering her head with her blanket as she screamed in terror forgetting for a moment where she was, that her mother and father would not come running to make sure she was okay. A voice echoed through a small vent in her cell.
"Keep it down in there! I'm trying to sleep!" An annoyed voice rang out.Adiella who still sat on her bed, her face covered in fear. She slowly uncovered her head and spoke.
"Hello?" Her small voice spoke.
She stood up placing her feet softly on the cold floor and walked over to the vent.
"Who was that!?" Adiella asked into the vent frightened .
There was silence.... She tried a few more times and got no response so she retreated back to her bed... the next night the same thing happened. Her screams echoed throughout her room. Waking up and screaming some more as she saw the bad man standing in the corner of her room. She threw her pillow over to the corner.
"Leave me alone!" She screamed.
The figure dissipated into thin air, leaving no sign anyone had been in the room but her. She sat up drawing her knees to her chest.
Day 3....
She hadn't been to sleep since she saw the bad man. Staring at the corner the entire time. As the guard brought her lunch she ignored it not being able to take her sleep deprived eyes off the corner, still in the same position from the night before. One guard conversed with the other as they shut the door locking her in again."Such a horrible place for a child.. its gonna drive her mad" The younger guard said sympathetically.
"She shouldn't have killed that man in cold blood then, horrible man or not. She broke 3 of the most important laws we have set. Besides... looks like it already has. She's not gonna last in here" The other older guard spoke as he pulled the cell door shut.
As night fell, her eyes finally began to drift shut... but was soon woken up again by the same recurring nightmare... She screamed hopping out of bed and running to a corner of the room hiding in it and she sobbed into her knees. When she heard the voice again... The same voice from her first night here.
"I can't take this anymore" An annoyed muffled voice spoke.
"Little girl hello?" The voice spoke again but clearer.
Adiella inched over to the vent slowly...
"Helloo?" The voice spoke again.
