*Aubrey*

The nerves before I go on stage is immense, a feeling that encapsulates my whole body, like a nightmare coming true.
I sit on the bathroom floor minutes before I'm due to go live on the Tonight Show. It's easier now I have a routine. 10 minutes before I go up, I sit in the bathroom waiting for the panicked waves of sickness to leave my body, making sure I don't mess up any of my makeup.

Today was no exception, as if on cue, 10 minutes before, the panick starts.

As I sit there, on the cold, hard bathroom floor, my head in my palms, eyes squeezed shut, I hear a faint knock on the door followed by someone calling my name.

"Aubrey?" "Are you okay hun? You've been in there a while."
"Mhmm." I squeak out.
"Hey, it's only me. Let me in, I'll help you." I recognise the voice to be Lizzie's, so I stand up to unlock the door, fighting the bouts of dizziness.

"Hey love, what's wrong?" She asks quietly.
"I always get like this, it's so stupid. You would've thought the stage fright would've disappeared by now." I tell her shaking my head with a half-hearted giggle.
"No, it never does. Only gets better. I get you Aubs, you're not the only one."
I slowly nod at her trying to conquer my breathing.

She strokes my hair as she watches me, trying to comfort me.
"Look at me love. Follow my breath and try not to think of anything else."
We stare at each other as I try to calm down. It works, partially, at least she's taken my mind completely off anything else. However, my breathing doesn't seem to be slowing.

I break my gaze as soon as I realise the effect she's having on me. The sickness is gone at least and I feel relatively back to my usual self.

"Uhh, I think we should go now, we'll be called in a moment." I say stumbling over my words a little.
"Okay, are you feeling better?"
"Much better, thank you so much Lizzie." I slip her a smile in which she returns.

A few minutes later our names are called onto the stage. I check my watch, 11:30, and take a deep breath before I step out just in front of Elizabeth.

"... anddd, our stars for tonight are: Elizabeth Olsen and Aubrey Plaza. Please give them a round of applause."
I catch the end of Jimmy's monologue as I walk across the stage to our seats.

*Lizzie*

The longer the interview goes on for, the more I realise how often I've been glancing over to Aubrey. I can't stop thinking about the way she looked at me earlier. I know she's dated women before but I can't quite decide if that look was what I interpreted it as. Was it truly meant for me?

"Lizzie?" Jimmy calls to me breaking me from my thought.
Shit.
"Huh?""Haha I'm so sorry, I entirely missed that." I try to laugh it off.
"We can tell." He nods, grinning to the audience. "There must have been something on your mind, please do share."
"Aww no. Honestly it was silly."
Jimmy just responds with a jokingly displeased look.
"Fine. If you want to know I was thinking about what I was going to have for dinner after this. I'm starving!" I say with an eye roll.
With a giggle from the audience and a few hand gestures two chefs wheel out a great, silver trolly in front of me and Aubrey revealing two delicious looking plates of hot wings.

"Well," Fallon starts, "You're in luck as the challenge for you today is a competition on which one of you can eat the most amount of those wings with a straight face." He says reading a prompt from a card.

"Oh no no no." Aubrey exclaims.
"I have been on HotOnes twice in my life. That's twice too many, I definitely didn't sign up to this in the briefing!"
I giggle at her outrage and challenge her to the trial by taking a big bite into the first wing, raising my eyebrows at her.
