Mia stood in front of her mirror, adjusting the straps of her dress for the third time. Tonight was the night of the highly anticipated art exhibition she had been looking forward to for weeks. It was the perfect opportunity to immerse herself in a world of creativity and hopefully gain some inspiration for her own projects. More than that, it was her chance to spend more time with Lucas and see if there was potential for something deeper between them.

She and Lucas had continued seeing each other since their date, but things still felt... off. She couldn't shake the lingering doubt in her chest, and more often than not, her thoughts wandered back to Jake, the barista whose charming smile and easy-going nature seemed to haunt her every waking moment.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Mia grabbed her bag and headed out the door. She had promised herself to focus on Lucas tonight—on giving him a real chance.

The gallery was alive with energy when she arrived. Soft jazz music played in the background as people wandered through the exhibits, admiring the eclectic mix of modern and traditional artwork. Lucas was already there, waiting for her by the entrance, looking effortlessly stylish in a dark button-up shirt and slacks. His face lit up when he saw her, and Mia felt a warmth in her chest.

"You look beautiful," he said, stepping closer and giving her a gentle kiss on the cheek.

Mia smiled, feeling a bit more relaxed. "Thanks. I'm excited to see the exhibits tonight."

As they walked through the gallery, admiring the various paintings and sculptures, Mia found herself getting lost in the art. The vibrant colors, the abstract shapes, and the intricate details of each piece were mesmerizing. Lucas seemed to share her enthusiasm, talking animatedly about the techniques and the symbolism behind certain pieces. His knowledge of art impressed her, and for a while, Mia felt like things were falling into place.

But then, in the middle of their conversation, something caught her eye.

Jake.

He was standing near the café booth set up in the corner of the gallery, chatting with one of the event organizers. He wore a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, exposing the tattoos on his forearms, and his hair was slightly messy in that effortlessly cool way of his. Mia's heart did an involuntary flip, and she quickly averted her gaze, trying to focus on Lucas's voice.

But it was too late. Lucas had noticed her distraction. He followed her gaze and spotted Jake across the room. His smile faltered for a moment, and a flicker of something unreadable passed across his face.

"You know him?" Lucas asked, his tone casual but with an edge of curiosity.

Mia nodded, trying to act nonchalant. "Yeah, he's the barista from Brewed Awakening. I see him a lot when I'm working there."

Lucas raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a playful smile. "I see. He seems like... an interesting guy."

There was a hint of competition in his voice, and Mia felt a pang of guilt. She didn't want Lucas to feel like he was second choice or that she wasn't fully invested in their time together. But at that moment, it was hard to ignore the pull she felt toward Jake.

Before she could respond, Jake looked up and spotted her. A wide grin spread across his face as he waved, walking over to greet her.

"Mia! I didn't know you'd be here tonight," Jake said, his voice warm and friendly. "Enjoying the exhibition?"

Mia felt her face flush, trying to keep her composure. "Yeah, it's been great. Lots of amazing work here."

Jake nodded, his gaze shifting to Lucas, who stood by her side, watching the interaction closely.

"And you must be... Lucas, right?" Jake said, offering his hand for a handshake.

Lucas smiled and shook Jake's hand, though Mia could sense the subtle tension between them. "That's right. I've heard a lot about you."

"Likewise," Jake replied, his smile never faltering.

For a moment, the three of them stood there in an awkward silence, and Mia wished the ground would swallow her whole. She had never meant for this to become some sort of weird love triangle, yet here she was, caught between two men who seemed to be sizing each other up.

"Well, I should get back to the booth," Jake said after a beat, sensing the awkwardness. "Maybe I'll see you around later."

Mia nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, maybe."

As Jake walked away, Mia couldn't help but feel a sense of longing tugging at her heart. She liked Lucas—she really did—but something about Jake was undeniable. He had a way of making her feel comfortable, like they had a natural connection that didn't require any effort.

Lucas, however, had noticed the shift in her mood. He didn't say anything at first, but as they moved on to another exhibit, Mia could sense that he was holding something back.

"Everything okay?" Lucas finally asked, his voice soft but tinged with concern.

Mia hesitated, unsure of what to say. She didn't want to hurt him, but she couldn't deny the confusion that had been building up inside her. "Yeah, I'm fine," she replied, though the words felt hollow.

Lucas studied her for a moment, then smiled, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Okay. Let's enjoy the rest of the night."

Mia nodded, determined to push her feelings for Jake to the back of her mind, at least for now. But deep down, she knew this wasn't the last time she would have to confront the choice between Lucas and Jake.
