Once, out of frustration, Thomas had destroyed a bendy cutout.

The task to create the perfect, living carbon copies of the cartoon characters kept inching itself deeper into his mind, speaking to him every single day.

He was exhausted of trying. He was tired of seeing people getting tormented. He too was tortured by those sights.

He was guilty from it.

Yet, he couldn't forget his ultimate task.

Keep the little devil darling happy.

He wasn't sure what incited him to do such a thing, but he remembered grabbing that cutout he stabbed.

The head was still fine.

He severed the cutout's head, and taped it over a window that displayed his own reflection.

Everyday, he passed that window in one of the workrooms.

It was a window that only led to another room, another passage that nobody truly knew. One of those secretive tunnels, again.

He would see himself in the glass pane, just his lower body.

A quiet mutter would slip from his mouth.

"Keep the little devil darling happy."

Thomas stared hauntingly at the bendy cutout above the mirror.

It was like a mask that covered his face perfectly.

....

Later, someone would steal that mask.

They would poke a hole into the mouthpiece, instead of the eyes.

Even though their face lacked a mouth to smile anymore.

That prophet would believe that his mouth was one and the same as the Ink Demon's divine prophecies.

He would be the lord's right hand man.

"Keep that grinning demon happy."
